Hotel Merkur Interlaken

We were satisfied with everything. In particular, the wifi was great!

This hotel is in the center of town. Very clean, excellent breakfast.

Steps away from the the train and bus station. Awesome friendly staff. Perfect place to stay for a few nights!

The biggest selling point is its convenient location, which situates right opposite to Interlaken West station. In addition, the hotel includes breakfast and bus coupons for guests. However, the conditions of facilities are dated. Moreover, I booked a family room for my family of 2 adults and a teenage daughter, but the size of the room is only a double room standard. Overall, Hotel Merkur is ideal for travellers on budget.

Great location , great breakfast. To bad when in the morning, the hot water in the bathroom isn't on.

I'm writing this review after staying in 4 different 3 stars hotels in Switzerland through out my 2 weeks holiday. So I'm trying to be fair when comparing same class hotel, in the same price range, in the same country. We have stayed 3 nights at this hotel during the month of October, 2 twin beds room #28 facing the back. I picked this hotel based on the convenient location and the moderate price. My Short Summary: Pros: Great Location Cons: Not disabled friendly, poor breakfast. Details: We need to walk up 8-9 steps of stairs to get on to the hotel lobby, not suitable for my mother with reduced mobility, and for travellers that has big heavy luggage or stroller. 2nd, the breakfast area is located on the top floor (5th floor) which again only accessible by stairs ( elevator only goes up to 4th floor), so the building is not disabled friendly. We have stayed in Switzerland for 2 weeks and stayed in other 3 stars hotels and they are all easily accessible. Room is basic, Nothing to complain about. Most hotels in Switzerland doesn't equipped with air conditioner so no need to complain about no A/C. In regards to others complaining about the receptionists; both staff I've dealt with during my stay are helpful, friendly, Quick check in, I need a Switzerland power adaptor and the staff gladly offer me one with a refundable deposit, the other night I need hot water another staff gave me a kettle to use during my whole stay. I inquire about laundry service the staff told me they offer a third party wash and fold service for CHF15 per kilo (Which later on I find it is a very good deal by their living standard) The other thing I am disappointed is the breakfast, it's a very short window of time compare to other hotels, breakfast only serve between 7am (or 7:30am?) to 9:30am. We had 3 breakfasts there around 8:30am each morning and the hot food are gone. The server don't make any more scramble eggs or other hot food and she refuses to make more eggs.She is not rude, just care less. The food choices are much less than other 3 stars I've stayed in Switzerland and I've only had some scramble eggs on day 1, Day 2 morning no eggs I've asked the staff about it she said no more, come back tomorrow. Day 3 morning, I'm able to scrape some out from the bottom off the tray. and a couple pieces of cucumber and oranges, all is left is bread, cereal, a few cold cuts, juice dispenser is almost empty. I feel like I'm eating leftovers. Conclusion: It is the worst of the four 3 stars hotels I stayed in Switzerland I won't come back again.

Small rooms, small bathrooms, Unprofessional & Rude Staff. Both the receptionist Nora & Isabel are very rude, unprofessional & don't know how to talk with guests. And when you complain to them about their rude behaviour they tell that its in their culture as they are south american and all...They try to extort money from guests for Bathroom Slippers. I had booked 6 Rooms (12 Adults and 6 Child) with their hotel and one of my guests left early and I thought about shifting my child in those rooms. Both Nora and Isabel refused to give me room keys for that 6th room and started shouting on us. Only after intervention of the supplier through which I had booked the rooms we got the key of that room.

The location is fantastic and is just outside the west station.I liked the location. The check in was quick. Had breakfast included in the tariff. The boat station was nearby. Also the tariff included free transport pass for the stay in interlaken. The tariff is around 205 CF and 7 CF city tax per night.

Rooms were adequate but very small. The breakfast buffet was very good, but we arrived one morning just as a tour group was leaving and the staff told us that breakfast was closed when in fact there was at least one hour left. We ate anyway.

Although great for location and convenience, rooms are too small but the worst -the front desk staff- Dinis- was rude, unhelpful and not a right fit for a role that requires customer service, she displayed such disrespectful attitude and responses to queries//requests..
