"10/10 Experience"

10.0

Our stay at the Lodge was absolutely incredible! We made sure to soak up all the amenities, and it was a great choice, as there was something for everyone to enjoy, from our 85-year-old to our 2-year-old. Every single person we came across was welcoming and knowledgeable. Everywhere we went in Whitefish, if we mentioned we were staying at the Lodge, we were met with compliments and praise for such a cool place. It was a 10/10 experience!

Overall, I loved my stay at the Lodge. I would definitely stay again. The only suggestion I have is for the complimentary in-room water, coffee, and creamers, sugar packets, etc to be restocked without having to repeatedly request these items at the front desk (where they had bottled waters stocked for those who asked). Not sure why Housekeeping didn’t provide these items as part of their daily service

"Could be 4 stars someday!"

6.0

This Lodge needs better service and attention. Make sure you know which area of the Lodge you are staying in. There is the Main Lodge and the Viking Lodge. This is the 2nd stay at Lodge at Whitefish. The first stay we had a beautiful room in the Main Lodge, overlooking Whitefish Lake. The second time, not so great with a room facing the parking lot. We had lunch and dinner at The Boat Club which was extremely bland. We even tried the Tiki Bar for lunch and nothing impressive either. Quite shocking you can have a beautiful view and below average food. Don't order a cocktail with tonic water either, it is always flat, even after attempts to fix it. The pool and lounge chairs need a MAJOR facelift. It was packed with kids and crowds of people. We tried months in advance to reserve a boat. We left tons of messages and no one called us back. Luckily we rented with a local company and got fabulous service. If you go downstairs in the morning to grab a coffee or muffin, be aware, it will take forever as there is only one barista at the counter. People were quite upset they had to wait in line for over 30 minutes!! On a positive note, the shower pressure is great and the rooms are spacious.

"Not worth the price"

4.0

This hotel sits on a magnificent property, surrounded by mountains and on a lake . The area is magnificent and we loved being in Whitefish .. that said the hotel is a dump and in need of a major refresh ... The carpets throughout the property and the rooms . Lampshades with holes in them, poor to no.lighing in rooms , they are so old and tattered they look dirty .. we booked a loft suite ( great space ) but the only place I would sit was on the bed after they changed the linens .. cost was 1000 per night and looked like a 200.00 Hiton Garden Inn .. Housekeeping was awful I.needed to ask a couple of times daily for my room to please be cleaned prior to 4 on it got to the point where I said just give us fresh towels and change the linens . people were very nice and did everything they could to try to make the guest happy ..

"Warm & cozy hotel"

10.0

This hotel captures a mountain lodge feel - cozy and warm - with a fireplace in the lobby and in the rooms. There are a couple good restaurants on site that face the lake and there is a very nice spa downstairs. The rooms are a good size and comfortable. The outdoor area by the lake is great with a pool, hot tub, and tiki bar. I appreciated the shuttle from and to the airport and downtown. The staff were helpful and friendly. I’d definitely stay here again.

"One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had"

2.0

I had a terrible experience here last year that has been weighing on me for a year. I felt like I had to post. It started because the staff downgraded my room to a room with insufficient beds. They didn’t tell us they downgraded our room, it was only when we went to the room that we discovered this. When we went to front desk to tell them they made a mistake, the only thing they offered to make up for it was a rollaway, which was absurd in a hotel we paid $700 a night for (especially because my room type I had booked was extra and they didn’t offer money back) and the room they offered was so tiny the rollaway would barely fit. When we explained that this wouldn’t work for us, the manager made us sit in the lobby while he ‘figured out what he can do.’ They made us sit in the lobby for hours, until eventually they gave us a nicer room (that they clearly had available the whole time). However, we couldn’t enjoy the nicer room, because the next day, they made us wait for them in the room for hours as they decided what to do with us. It was clear they were waiting to see if somebody else would book the fancier room, as both days they waited until late in the day to say we could keep the ‘fancy’ room. Which meant, in the end, we didn’t get do anything at all at the hotel but sit in the room or the lobby waiting for them. We didn’t get to enjoy the resort at all or hike at all.. During the entire experience, the manager kept haranguing me that Expedia books their rooms wrong, and that it’s my fault for booking with Expedia. I understand if there’s an error with Expedia, but if you choose to offer rooms through Expedia, you can’t blame the guest for booking through a platform you choose to offer rooms on. Also, if this is a known issue, why don’t you either fix it or stop offering rooms through Expedia? But what’s even worse is that he was lying about Expedia booking the wrong room, because I had called two weeks in advance to confirm the parking situation, and the lady at the front desk at that time (who was super nice) confirmed to me my booking and confirmed the number of beds in my booked room. Even when I told him I had previously confirmed with a receptionist my room type, so I knew it wasn’t Expedia’s fault, he kept harping on this rather than trying to fix it. He was clearly trying to blame me for a mistake on his end, and it felt like he was hoping I’d feel embarrassed and accept ‘blame,’ rather than trying to fix it. I got so frustrated with him making us wait for hours while he flipped flopped both days and then on top of it, kept haranguing me for Expedia, that I got really upset which caused him to give me $100 to eat dinner there as a freebie. While this was nice, I guess, it didn’t at all make up for it. I basically paid $1500 to wait in a lobby or sit in a slightly larger room for hours. Honestly, it was kind of humiliating, the way they treated me, a guest, like me and my family’s time didn’t matter and we need to just wait on him, while he tried to find guests he wanted more or make a decision, like my time didn’t matter at all. They also acted like they were doing us a big favor to give us a room equal or equivalent to what we paid for. All we wanted was enough beds. I didn’t write a review then (this was a year ago) because I had recently experienced two deaths in the family that week, and was obviously very upset about that and wanted to put the whole thing behind me, and didn’t want to overreact to the situation. However, a year later, this experience still weighs on me and I feel like I have to say something. This was unacceptable behavior for a luxury hotel. In fact, this is unacceptable behavior for any hotel. If you make a mistake, it’s your responsibility to make up for it. The fact that they tried to downgrade us without giving money back or offer us something equivalent was completely unacceptable. The fact that they screwed up, had fancier rooms available that would have been completely fixed the mistake, but refused to fix their mistake because they’d rather make more money, is absolutely unacceptable. In fact, if they hadn’t upgraded me, I probably would’ve had the right to sue for my money back because they refused to give me what I’d paid for. Also, it they had just been upfront with us, and tried to work for a solution for both of us, we would’ve understood because mistakes happen. It was the lying and punishing us for their mistake by making us wait for hours that was unacceptable. One positive is I do want to say the wait staff I met and the room service were very nice. Doesn’t make up for the management I had to deal with. There’s plenty of equally pretty hotels in the area that are half the price. You pay for this hotel in order to get a luxury experience, which means you should treat your guests well. The constant criticism and then flip flopping on what to do was so stressful, it was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences of my life, and I’ve stayed in some pretty sketchy places in my youth before. Never again. Please never treat another guest like this again. Be better.
