"Never have a wedding here"

2.0

Went to a family wedding here and all I’m saying is never get married here unless you want your cake getting cut by the staff before the bride and groom and then when my cousin who was the bride tried to find someone to talk to they was no where to been seen Rude managers not caring Dirty table clothes and cutlery Food took ages to come out and was cold Toilets out of order Bedrooms where disgusting like they haven been cleaned Reception staff was rude on check inn and check out When we asked assistance one of the mangers was to busy chatting and not doing his job When we got our booking confirmation there was no indication that there was road closures and traveling from London had no clue where we was going No apologies what so ever I would never in a million years stay there again The atmosphere is bad

"Disappointed"

2.0

Avoid, stayed many times with my family and always a pleasant stay until now. Received usual reminder of booking but no mention road closed from motorway and terrible road diversion. Finally arrived. Room booked not available due to maintenance issue. Also reason loo beside bar out of order. Told £20 off as an apology but the alternative room was cheaper anyway. Waived our dog overnight charge. Only 8 guests so understood no breakfast buffet but Reception did not tell us. Next morning buffet was on. You serve yourself hot drinks but this was out of order. Reception said my 2 guests could have breakfast at £12.50 rate. On that morning told £16.50 as they were visitors. I complained, female receptionist apologised saying will charge my card at £12.50 pp. Not surprised checked my account on return home they took £16.50 pp. We were given a drink voucher each for a soft or draft drink, but sadly as a long standing club member and frequent visitor. Swan hotel will get our business in future.

Check-in at the property was very slow even though there were two members of staff working the front desk. Had to wait 20-30mins in a queue which is not great after a long journey to the hotel.

"Excellent value "

10.0

Very good, excellent value with 3 course evening meat and breakfast included which were both very good. Sensible £10 charge for the dog which is much better than other Holiday Inns. There are a lot of building works next to the hotel, but no noise in the evening and didn’t start early in the morning.

"A lovely hotel in a great location let down by very poor staff."

4.0

I stayed one night at this hotel with my one year old son to break up a very long journey. I cannot fault the cleanliness of the hotel or the delicious breakfast. The free parking (you must remember to input your car registration plate into the terminals inside the hotel) and the location so close to the M1 are very convenient, however these are the only positive things I can say about this hotel. On arrival at the hotel I had been assigned a first floor room. This was problematic as I was a single parent travelling with a baby (who cannot walk) in a pram and had quite a lot of luggage with me. The ground floor rooms had supposedly all been assigned before I arrived. I’m not sure I believe this as it’s a really big hotel, I arrived one hour after check-in opened and barely saw or heard a single other guest anywhere in the hotel during our stay. There is no lift at the hotel and I wasn’t offered any help with getting my son, my pram or my bags up the stairs. Thankfully a friend was meeting us for dinner so he helped me upstairs with my luggage. The receptionist said he would leave a note for the morning staff to help me down the stairs with my luggage at checkout. At dinner my friend, my son and I were the only guests in the restaurant. The card machine was brought to our table to pay for our food immediately after we had ordered main courses and a drink. This seemed unusual as I am used to paying at the end of a restaurant meal, after being offered further drinks and desserts. I paid but was then refused a receipt. I was told I “might be able to get one” from reception. After dinner I discovered that the two windows in my room (room 25) were stuck open. There was a terrible draught blowing across the bed and my baby’s crib. The lock on the room door was also completely jammed so I was unable to lock the door. I called reception who managed to close the windows but couldn’t fix the door and didn’t offer me a different room; the receptionist said I was safe because the door had a restrictor on it so could only be opened a few inches from the outside. As a woman travelling alone with a baby I did not feel safe not being able to lock the door and didn’t sleep at all for worrying about it. After breakfast when I called reception to ask for help with my bags I was initially refused any help as the receptionist was “busy checking people out”. I was forced to leave my baby alone in the room while I transported my luggage downstairs in several trips. When I went downstairs there were no guests at all at the reception desk being checked out and only then did the receptionist agree to come and help me with the last of my bags. On handing in my key the receptionist couldn’t be bothered to even look at me, let alone ask how my stay had been. They were just staring at the computer, completely disinterested in me. I have emailed the hotel directly twice to give some feedback on my stay and request a refund, and followed up my emails with a phone call, and all of these have been completely ignored so I now feel I have no option left but to post a negative review and reach out to the brand head office. I have never before asked for a refund for a hotel stay but this is one of the worst I have ever had which was a huge surprise for a four star Holiday Inn.

"Good, but could be excellent."

8.0

The hotel is currently rather odd to get too due to huge roadworks out of their control. The building is beautiful with loads of parking and EV charging available. Check in was smooth and the room was typical holiday inn style but just starting to show a little bit of age. Breakfast was wide ranging buffet style and all good quality. Our only complaint was the bed, it sunk into the middle and was one of the worst I've slept on. Ok for one night though. All in all a good experience just a little rough round the edges.

"Exceptionally substandard"

2.0

No heating, staff seemed uninterested in this. Or fixing it. I tried phoning for reception to fix it and was told that the phone lines are broken. It had black mould on the walls and was generally in disrepair. And utter lack of care for the building.

"A nice hotel in its day with overworked staff."

4.0

I could see how a few years ago this hotel would have been appealing however time and its location relevance have moved on. Check in was relatively simple but clear from the start the hotel is run on a skeleton crew. All were courteous and attentive but overworked, multitasking and under stress. Not great when you have a couple of hours to recharge yourself and focus on business for tomorrow. The hotel is ridiculously isolated in the centre of a roadworks but next to the M1 if you wanted to get anywhere. Dinner again was nice but came in dribs and drabs to our large group with the only two staff being polite but clearly overwhelmed. Not a real team dinner. The last issue for me is that travelling so much with business I need a fuss free invoice chain where I can submit my expenses and move on. After 10days. Two requests in person at the time, 4 phone calls and two emails I have received assurance my invoice is on its way but 5hrs later still no luck.
