Kaanapali Ocean Inn

This place is a dump! They have nerve selling this as a resort. The beds both had deep depressions in the center. The showerhead sprayed everywhere, incorrectly installed. When we pulled in, I said to the valet, please give me a minute to put my cameras in their cases, it will take a minute or two. His response was no - one of you checkin, one of you stay with your luggage! I've never been spoken to like that by any service person in any hotel. Gets better. While waiting to check in, the desk clerk did EVERYTHING but check me in. She took calls, and she had the nerve (while we were waiting) to call a guest and tell them that they have to pay for 4 occupants (rather than two) all the while we waited. The room was rundown, furniture bare bones, scratched, peeling etc. And there was no elevator to the room.

Perfect location and walking distance to whalers village. My kids and I enjoyed sitting on the balcony and listening to the live luau music nightly.

When we arrived after 9:30 at night so we just went to bed we were too tired to deal with any of these issues until morning. By the way I have pictures of all of this and I will be posting it on social media. 1. The first room all the wallpaper was coming off in big chunks 2. The dresser drawers won’t open & all the paint is coming off 3. The carpet is old and dirty 4. Can’t close the bathroom door there is no handle on it from the inside 5. Black areas in the shower above & above the Toilet like Black mold And the ceiling looks like it could fall down on you at any moment (I found this in all 3 rooms) 6. The bathroom floors are disgusting 7. The frig is in the closet & floor looks dirty & rusty 8. Live Bugs in the bathroom & by the Coffee sink area cleaned them up at night more in the morning 9. The only chair or item to put our suitcases on was dirty brown only 1 Suitcase holder 10. Complained in the morning Room 2 was suppose to be clean we walked into a dirty slept in room. 11. Room 3 the last room after saying I would even pay more to stay in there sister hotel they put us in one more room. 12. When the air conditioner is on its loud & blows on your face all night. 13. Walls are papers then you can hear everybody 14. The faucet is broke in the bathroom the handle comes off 15. Oh and one of the drawers is broke no handle 16. The light by the bed only works when you hold it 17. All 3 rooms in the shower the roof looks like it’s going to cave in & looks like Black mold 18. The outside pool hot tub doesn’t work. 19. The air conditioners in all the rooms blows on your head all night. 20. The air conditioner in the last room made noise every time it went on 21. I after seeing the 2rd room I told the Bellman who was on the phone with the office that I would pay more to stay in their sister hotel rather than stay in this hotel. They didn’t seem to care what I said and I finally just gave up because I didn’t want to ruin my whole vacation changing rooms again for the 4th time. 22. The walls are thin no matter what room we were in we could hear other people talking until 2 am 23. The shower goes warm to burning hot on and off the whole time so you have to be care you don’t burn yourself 24. No elevator so we had to drag our suitcases up by yourself 25. Parking was supposed to be $30 a day and it was 35+ tax 26. The toilet plugged up and wouldn’t flush complaining didn’t get me anywhere so we just let it go

If you're going to give us a room on the 3rd floor the building needs to have an elevator or notice in advance that it does not. Our room was located a block from the main building and this was also not disclosed at time of booking. Will NEVER, repeat NEVER go back there...

Don't stay here. It is outdated and has bugs. This place is a joke. Amongst all the other fees they charge, when you get there, they have a required $100/night hold on your credit card which is not listed on their website. Other properties have a per stay hold, not nightly and it is not as steep. When questioned about it, they confirmed although it is not on their website, it is a requirement for all guests and their front desk service staff is rude. This information should be listed on their website so those that are budgeting can have this calculated in their budget.

The rooms... and I mean rooms, were extremely dirty, I've used porta-potties at a packed festival on a hot day that were cleaner! Extremely disappointed with the cleanliness and management's ambivalence to the matter.

Property was over priced and substandard. Washroom and shower taps had built up grime. The corridor and room carpets badly needed to be shampooed. There was no hand soap, shampoo, and bath gel in the room when checked in. A call to the front desk didn’t help. I had to go to the front desk for pickup after I waited an hour.

It was quiet even on New Year's eve, plus the hotel desk clerk upgraded our room without asking - super helpful and friendly. Even tho the property is a little older and worn, really liked the casual-ness and just had a friendly vibe.
