Citrus Hotel Eastbourne by Compass Hospitality

The staff were lovely - friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a very nice, continental spread. The bed was comfy with the duvet being the perfect weight for a comfortable night's sleep. The room and carpet were clean.

The hotel is a classic case of once having been grand, but now tired and in need of some serious investment. Repairs are needed and decoration carried out. The windows didn't work properly, some of the glass units were blown and grubby. The curtains needed re-fixing. Bedside lights would be good but it would appear that there aren't enough sockets.

It was basic for the expensive price we paid

Toiletries was like washing up liquid, dirty stains everywhere especially round the toilet on the floor

The staff were super friendly and helpful during our stay. The location was convenient and check-in was easy.

The hotel had a strong unpleasant smell. We couldn’t open the windows, which made the room feel stuffy and uncomfortable. The breakfast selection and quality were also poor.

very nice staff especially Andy who was very helpful. our room was very nice with a lovely bathroom and lots of channels on the TV. It was across the road from the beach which was great.

Breakfast finishing at 9am which seemed quite early when you didn't need to check out until 11am. Choice of food at breakfast was not great.

The room was spacious and the breakfast buffet was very good.

Staff were clearly a little stretched and the decor had seen better days. However, there was 2 small and 2 big problems in the room (109): - The least annoying was there was only 1 electricity socket, albeit double, and this was on the wall opposite the beds. So it was not possible to have phones charging at the bedside. - Also frustrating was the lack of wifi information in the room - I had to go down and ask reception which one to use and the password. - The first big problem was the toilet flush / cistern. This developed a 'water hammer' noise while refilling which sounded like someone using a power drill; unfortunately the refilling water also flowed into the toilet, so the cistern didn't fill and the noise continued. This is not the kind of problem you want at 3am, but there was no-one to contact to come and investigate. - The second big problem was only discovered when packing bags to leave - the ceiling smoke alarm had been covered by a sock. As the ceiling was very high, a ladder would have been needed to do this.

Everything
