Excellence Playa Mujeres - Adults Only All Inclusive

Had an amazing time at Excellent Playa Mujeres, everything was even better than we expected, from the team who work there, the room, the food, the activities ... not often we would go to the same resort more than once, but we'll definitely be coming back to this one.

We spent 10 nights in a Junior Swim Up Suite. The room was excellent, clean and lots of space - please see other comments on privacy etc, it didn't bother us too much but I can see how it would be a concern especially when one of you is sleeping and the lights come on! I originally booked the hotel as they had great vegan menus in all restaurants with a range of different options. However I think they changed the menus prior to our holiday and it was quite repetitive in all the restaurants which was a shame for me. However staff were knowledgeable and would always make sure the waiter knew I was vegan. Staff are what makes this place so amazing, they cannot do enough for you. The Sports Bar staff were absolutely fantastic. Manuela and Johnathan you were wonderful and made our last night very special!

A beautiful place withe most attentive staff. The food we had was amazing, the pools were great and the drinks were excellently made by people who remembered your drinks. Cleaning people were extremely thorough and 24 hour room service is unbeatable! Overall just a memorable trip and we will be back

Excellent service, amazing food and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful and clean room but they need dehumidifiers to help with mildew odor Very crowded and no enforcement of savings lounges for hours at a time when not using them

Amazing way to start a trip dealing with the Airport into a nice single SUV for my wife and I to enjoy a private ride to the resort, with a nice pairing of Champagne when we arrived. Each day was filled with excellent service, Amazing views and great staff. The one exception would be a bit around the food, it was just above average and not spectacular as I had hoped, but the drinks and quality people more than made up for any experience.

With a beautiful resort and mostly excellent food this resort was almost paradise. With wait times at restaurants slow almost all nights, they clearly need more staff and please don't want to have a good time after 11:00 b/c their "nightlife" in the "sportsbar" was less than entertaining. If you're over 60 this is probably the best place for you, but if you would like to have a good time after 11 or be entertained at the pool probably look some where else.

The Excellence is a wonderful place to go and relax and get pampered. We tried almost all of the restaurants - all food was good. The room was amazing and room service was delivered on time, hot, and wonderful. All staff was super friendly and willing to help. We did not do the club room as it was more expensive and didn't regret it. We were still very pampered. The only difference is we had two less restaurants to choose from (but we still managed to eat at 5 different restaurants). The only thing that was a little annoying was having to get up at 7 am to reserve chairs on the beach (if you wanted front row). Otherwise everything was great!

We are fortunate to have visited Excellence Playa Mujeres for 9 days in February 2026. We have visited Excellence El Carmen - Punta Cana D.R. for the same February weeks in 2024 and 2025. This is our first trip to any Excellence Resorts in Mexico. We booked an Excellence Club swim-up room, Bldg 9. (9051). Our trip details are below. TRANSPORTATION Non-Stop RT: BOSTON to CANCUN We booked SEASONS airport transfer, excellent, on-time and friendly service each way, similar to our previous Dominican Republic vacations. ROOM We did get the room that we booked. Ready for us when we arrived at 4pm. We liked this room. It did have a musty smell, on occasion, as others have also reported. This ground floor end-unit was quiet, but the pool was great for relaxing, drinking, sunning and socializing with our neighbors. We had mosquitoes or “no-see-ums” in our room many nights. Lots of bites. No fun. I’m assuming that this is to be expected with ground floor rooms. Floors 2 or higher probably see much fewer mosquitoes. Bring your anti-histamine lotion. Pool-side service was attentive and frequent. Shout out to our Excellence server, Damian, and to Aldo who managed the Excellence Club Booth at Bldg. 9 Pool. Aldo and Damian both took great care that we had anything that we needed by the pool, and everyone else at pool-side received the same attention. Pool temps were fine, with the weather warming each day we were there. True for Bldg. 9 pool and Main Pool. (Very busy each day through the afternoon). BEACH No red flags. Some sargasso on the beach and in the water, but never severe or smelly. Further north (left), past the next Finest resort, the beach fronts on a golf course, instead of another resort. Much more seaweed here. There is a line of buoys, maybe 25 ft offshore, that kept people from venturing out to deep. The Excellence Club beach service was also well served by attentive staff. We can recommend Jesus, Josue and Angel. Each of them will be certain to promptly handle any requests that you may have. MEALS Meals were fine overall. We liked most everything that we ordered. Our favorites were Agave (2 dinners), Magna (2 dinners) and Chez Isabelle. We also had two great lunches at Oregano. The Kitchen Table - buffet breakfast had a great selection of Mexican dishes. Especially liked the sopes. SAFETY There has been a flare-up in violence in Mexico since we returned. Understand that Excellence in Playa Mujeres is in an enclave of about 10-12 resorts scattered over several miles of beach (including Playa Mujeres and Costa Mujeres). Armed security to get into this enclave. Additional security is present at the entrance to the Excellence resort. SUMMARY We chose Excellence Playa Mujeres with some hesitation over our safety. We are glad that we chose this resort. We stayed on property except for one long day visit out to Chichen-Itza (wonderful!), and cancelled on a second long day visit to X-Caret (next year?). Our primary reason for this February vacation is for relaxation, sun, good food and drinks, and escape from New England winter. All of our needs were met, and the Excellence staff provided a next-level quality of service and attention that delighted us every single day.

My husband just stayed at this lovely resort for the second time. It had been about 10 years from our last stay. It was worth the wait except for the quality of the food. We were disappointed at several of the restaurants. for example at The Lobster house, my lobster tail was overcooked. I gave it a second chance and had the Mahi-Mahi, once again charred on the outside and too dried out to eat. We ate at the Grill 2 times as well and it was quite tasty. We loved Aroma fo coffee but also took out a ham and cheese sandwich, all I could taste was bread and when I opened it, it had the tiniest piece of ham and an even smaller piece of chess. The lettuce was old and brown/black on the edges. Disgusting, I threw it out. Chez Isabelle, the french restaurant, we were quite excited to go but also disappointed. I ordered the duck and it was a color I had never seen with duck, more of a greyish brown color with a heavy fat layer. I took one bit and cold not finish as it was awful. Honestly, we had a good meal at Oregano. The breakfast buffet was great. We also enjoyed Los Olmas, as it is more of a light lunch fare and doesn't preten to be something it is not . The appetizers were very good. Please Please Please improve your quality of the food served especially for top notch all-inclusive. I also found the drinks to be watered down. : (

My husband and I recently returned from out trip to Excellence Muheures. We had a wonderful and relaxing time. One area that need attention in the quality of the food served. For a high quality all-inclusive we found the found at best underwhelming. Several times our fish was overcooked and dried out. I got a sandwich at Aroma and the lettuce was rotting and black (not acceptable).My dick at Chez Isabelle did not resemble any duck that I have ever had and was very fatty. We both found the drinks to be watered down. Our favorite place was the Grill and Los Olas . I sincerely hope the quality of food is improved. Also, more seating needs to be made available near pool area, We had to get up early to get down to the pool area as most seats taken by 8 am.
