Abbey Sands Hotel

Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful

The hotel should be listed as 1* at best. Very tired looking hotel, nothing like the photos, outdoor pool is derelict, bedrooms are past tired and need fumigating, was lovely sharing the room with a window covered with thick cobwebs and spiders that had clearly been there a while, also windows were so rotten we didn’t dare touch them for fear the whole pane would fall out. Breakfast room was grubby and the drappy ceiling was filthy as well as lumps of mould seeping out of the wall paper. Such a shame the company has let the hotel get to this state.

The room was lovely and tidy

The beds were really hard. I asked if they had a mattress topper they said that they would see what they can do. Never heard anything back. Also we had to wait for drinks at the bar as there was only one member of staff running reception and the bar and many times, nobody at reception. we only had room service one day which was 4 o’clock in the afternoon. The other two days we didn’t have anybody coming in we had to ask for teabags, milk and toilet roll.

The property was in a great location, close to the pier about 10mins away. We got another room which was spacious since apparently someone else got our room by mistake which was ok by us. The staff were very nice & a big thanks to Morgan who suggested to go to Brixham which was a wonderful fishing village & a must to visit when here. Also to Rob who helped us get there & back.

The toilet was playing up a bit.

Great place and hotel was fine.

No air con and no fan in room so it was very hot

Best brekkie you could want especially when you are working

I think air conditioning is a must moving forward

I like the location, the bedroom, the beds, the swimming pool and all the facilities. There were two fans in the wardrobe for our use as it was too hot! Very well thought! The breakfast was ok.

Maybe parking could be cheaper if staying. Breakfast could have more than one fruit or yoghurt topping. And if I could ask, I will extend the pool timetable!

Location close to sea front and Abbey grounds, sea view from our room which was spacious and comfortable, friendly staff

Parking is chargeable which is a shame but probably because of the location so they might get cheeky people using it who aren’t guests otherwise. Not a criticism and didn’t affect us but the side we stayed on didn’t have a lift not sure if there was one elsewhere in property but would be something other people might need to look in to if they have mobility issues.
