Abbey Sands Hotel

Very little to like. Not at all like the photos online. It was like staying at your grandparents house who haven’t upgraded or decorated for years.

Very tired furniture, carpets, decor, paint flaking, dirty. Hairs on bed and in bathroom. Even last occupants clothes still hanging in bathroom! Stuffy rooms with very old windows that barely open and no air.

Excellent friendly staff. The young manager went out of his way to accommodate our needs. Breakfast was good with plenty of variety.

In a world where the hospitality industry is crumbling, the staff at Abbey Sands are doing amazing work to keep this grand hotel going. The character and essence of this hotel is wonderful, built for purpose with tall ceilings, sturdy furnishings, insanely comfortable beds with two pillows, all a stones throw from the beach. We secured parking for £9 which was a very competitive rate compared to other hotels and car parks in the area. Our family room for 3 (2 adults 1 child) was lovely and spacious, with a view overlooking the sea, kettle, hairdryer, bath, USB outlets, TV and extra seating in the room. Indoor pool/jaccuzi good and clean, but not suitable for children. The morning receptionist was an absolute delight and very welcoming! The room price is fair for a 1 night stay on a beautiful costal town.

- Outdoor pool (with an old rusty chair thrown in it) and surrounding area completely dilapidated, not giving a welcoming impression to go outside. Business will boom if the pool is given some TLC and opened for summer! - Breakfast was average. Very minimal options for vegetarians (I had called up to notify in advance but was only offered veggie sausages in replacement of the meat on the hot breakfast). No dairy alternative milks. X2 cereal options, X1 pastry option and x1 fresh fruit option on a continental breakfast. Lots of potential to make this a great and memorable hotel breakfast, people are simple, they love options, especially if you select local or British produce, it would make it more appealing. - Hairs and fluff still remained on the floor and on the bath upon arrival. Shower head bracket was broken so shower head would fall forwards and out of the holder. Both inconvenient but didn’t affect our experience.

Room was nice and big with an nice en-suite. Plenty of tea and coffee in the room. Bedding was clean and fresh, plenty of towels. If you need anything they did provide extra, like more tea, coffee, milk or toilet rolls. Also the pool was lovely and had a jacuzzi, which we very much enjoyed. The breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice on offer and very well stocked.

Our room had curtains but no net curtains/blinds and we overlooked a main street, so was a bit awkward, had to either put the light on to get dressed, or go into the bathroom. The bathroom had a net curtain which provided some privacy, but I feel you needed a blind or something, felt I could not put the light on at all at night. The bathroom was dusty on the pipework and skirting boards, but the actual bath, sink and toilet where all very clean.
