Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa

Location was great

Apparently the hotel is going to close in a few weeks for refurbishment. The staff told us about this . The wine list was depleted and the hotel is very faded. The pool are was very worn down and not very clean! Hopefully when it is refurbished it will be great.

Staff were rude and lied about the rooms. Breakfast was poor waiting for food to appear. 40 minutes for a egg royal to come. Did not have orange juice. Was told to long to go cellar to get some ciders. All in all a bit of a let down. Has so much potential but let down by cleanliness and staff

People at the reception were welcoming. No unnecessary inference during the stay.

Sudden smoke (false) alarm on the first day. Lighting in the room was prehistoric. Options for food were very limited. No privileges for the house guests for spa bookings.

We purchased a special deal through Booking.com called a "Parkland Delux deal" basically £300 for a nights stay including evening meal and breakfast. The drinks in the mini bar were included in the deal but the drinks for the evening meal were not. Fair enough but this was not made clear... and we were "tricked" into ordering water with the meal with one glass of wine... which came to an additional whopping £40! The menu options on the "deal" were not the same as everyone elses! Querying the bill the restaurant agreed a refund but could not do it... and nor could reception. They said to write an email when we got home which I did and the email reply said "Sorry no refund!" despite one being agreed. Breakfast was limited - all the cold drinks dispensers needed refilling, the staff were run off their feet and this showed in the waiting service at breakfast. One member of staff forgot our order, we had to ask again for a forgotten coffee. The hot breakfast buffet food was not appetising at all. We did wonder if the forthcoming closure of Luton Hoo in September for refurbishment (3 years) had something to do with the distinct drop in standards. This was perhaps our third stay and maybe 5th or 6th evening meal at Luton Hoo. Things have changed over the years and standards have dropped whilst prices have risen. Definitely our last visit as there are plenty of better value establishments nearby. The only good thing was the room, but the coffee machine leaked! The gardens appeared poorly maintained with nothing more than the lawns being cut. Having visited for over 10 years we can see the marked decline in standards.
