"We will be back!"

Atlantis was a full family experience, something here for all ages. Staff was outstanding, resort offers upscale amenities and a variety and large footprint allows for a diverse but intimate atmosphere.

"Disappointing"

4.0

I shared this feedback directly with the hotel but haven’t received a meaningful response, so I’m posting here to help set expectations for other families. Our stay at Atlantis was disappointing, mainly due to poor service and lack of basic customer care. Check-in took far too long, and the front desk staff was not friendly or accommodating. That set the tone for the trip. Our room was located near a mechanical area with a constant, high-pitched buzzing noise. We asked multiple times to switch rooms and were told nothing was available, even though availability showed online. The front desk made no real effort to help. After four days of asking the front desk and guest services for help relocating rooms with no progress, I contacted Chase Travel, who we booked the resort through. I then spent two hours on the phone trying to get the hotel to engage. The front desk wouldn’t answer calls or speak with the representative. Eventually, a manager allowed us to switch rooms, and we still had to pay more. This should have been handled quickly, not after days of frustration and lost vacation time. The rooms themselves were spacious and clean. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite. If you can, pay the extra $100-$200 for an ocean view to avoid the mechanical area noise, but do it before you arrive. Our original room was on the 10th floor above the main entrance and still had constant noise. Another group we were with stayed on the ocean end of the 15th floor and had no issue. If you book a harbor view, try to get as close to the ocean side as possible. At the pool and waterpark, staff were not helpful when we couldn’t locate one of our children. On top of that, waterslide staff denied my son access even though he met the height requirement, which brought him to tears. The situation was handled poorly. Throughout our stay, many employees came across as rude or dismissive. It often felt like we were an inconvenience rather than guests. At one point, I even looked into whether I might be unknowingly missing a cultural norm or expectation. I read that a more formal greeting is appreciated, so I made a point to greet staff with “Good morning/afternoon/evening, how are you?” instead of a simple “hi.” It may have helped slightly in some cases, but overall the interactions still felt unfriendly. There were a few positives. The bell desk team was great. The bartenders at Good Lies (the mini golf / sports bar) stood out as some of the best employees we encountered. They worked very hard despite being understaffed. We also had a nice dinner at Amber’s. The service was friendly and the food was decent. Overall, the experience did not match expectations for a resort of this level. If you’re planning a trip here, go in with adjusted expectations.

"Our third time at the Reef and we still love it!"

10.0

Our family loves The Reef at Atlantis! I love that I can get in over 20,000 steps a day while on vacation! Being from NYC, the walking is such a huge draw for me, especially as since I'm traveling with young kids. I don't worry about them running in front of me on the resort's lovely paths. They and I, are pooped by the end of the day!

"Premium Price - Disappointing Value"

6.0

READ BEFORE YOU BOOK – Reef Hotel (Family of 5, Kids Ages 1–7) We stayed at the Reef as a family of five with young kids, and for the price, this property simply did not deliver the value we expected. KIDS CLUB: $75 per child for just 2 hours (not a typo). There is only one kids club serving all four Atlantis properties, making it both limited and expensive. For families, this is a major downside. Constructive suggestion to Atlantis: there is a large, underutilized gym space between the Royal and Cove that could be repurposed into an expanded kids club. This would significantly improve the guest experience without making families feel nickel-and-dimed. WATER PARK: This is the highlight of Atlantis. The water park is excellent, well-designed, and something the kids truly enjoyed every day. POOL & BEACH: The pools are NOT heated, which makes them uncomfortable outside peak summer months. Service is also very inconsistent. We sat at the Reef pool for over an hour without seeing a server. If you want food or drinks, you’re better off sitting near a bar or restaurant. For a resort at this price point, service should be much better. RESTAURANTS & FOOD: Dining was one of the biggest frustrations. • The Reef has very limited options (basically Starbucks and a basic pool restaurant) • The better restaurants are at The Cove and The Coral. However, most Cove restaurants were fully booked throughout our stay, so reservations need to be made well in advance • The Coral is a long walk, especially with young kids • There is only one buffet in all of Atlantis (at The Royal), and the food was average at best We ended up eating at Shake Shack multiple times—not because we planned to, but because it was one of the few reliable and accessible options. Overall, food quality and availability across the resort were disappointing. DOLPHIN VS SEA LION EXPERIENCE: We did both. If you have to choose, go with the sea lion experience. It was more interactive and enjoyable. The dolphin experience did not have a photographer during our visit, which made it difficult to capture the moment. You also cannot bring your phone into the water, so someone must stay on shore to take pictures. If there is no photographer available for dolphins, I would skip it entirely. Sea Lion was awesome all around! BOTTOM LINE: Atlantis has some great features, especially the water park, but the overall experience does not match the price. Between inconsistent service, limited dining availability, and high costs, it’s hard to justify for families. In the end, the most consistent highlights of our trip were the sea lion experience, the water park, and, surprisingly, Shake Shack.

"Not Worth the Hype: A Costly Caribbean Disappointment"

4.0

The Bottom Line I am starting with the bad first: I am never coming back and I absolutely do not recommend anyone come here. If you know your options around the Caribbean, this resort is an absolutely horrible value. It may have had its heyday once, but those days are long gone. Will not stay at this hotel again in the future. Empty Promises and Hidden Fees The resort management previously commented that they would follow up with us during our stay to address our concerns, but that absolutely never happened. When I brought my issues up at checkout, they offered to take off some room charges. That is not who we are, so we declined the gesture. However, they firmly refused to refund any of the mandatory $35.50 daily gratuity fees per room. I have a massive issue with this because it was never made clear at booking or check-in that these would be charged on top of the mandatory $75 daily resort fee. We made the mistake of tipping everyone in cash, only to be hit with this massive additional charge at the end. Deferred Maintenance The rooms at The Reef are shabby and suffer from a lot of deferred maintenance. There is zero attention to detail. We dealt with broken features, scuffed-up furniture, nail pops in the floors, and hot water that barely worked. This lack of upkeep applies to the majority of the Atlantis property, right down to the fact that half the elevators were either out of service or barely worked. For the amount of money they charge, it is a joke. Extreme Nickel and Diming Everything here comes with a charge, and none of it is reasonably priced. The only complimentary things are beach towels and water park access. Want to use the kids’ club or go snorkeling? Charge. Coffee or snacks? Charge. We fully understand it is not an all-inclusive resort, but the prices are insulting. Expect to pay $9 for a croissant, $9 for a beer, $18 for a rice bowl, $25 for a burger, and $17 for a plastic cup margarita on the beach that is mostly just ice. Barely Edible, Overpriced Food Every restaurant on the property had poor, barely edible food, and it is all horrendously overpriced. No dinner for the three of us was under $275, except for Murray’s Deli, which still cost a staggering $135 for a family of three. The adult dinner buffet is $62 per adult and featured some of the worst food I’ve had in my life, though the sushi and salad were bearable. The only actual culinary positives during our entire stay were McKenzie’s Conch Shack and the Red Snapper at Bimini Road. While most of the staff we encountered were friendly, the service is incredibly slow, which is unacceptable when paying premium a la carte prices. Poor Family Experience Despite its reputation, we did not find this resort to be family-friendly. Our 12-year-old daughter is a competitive swimmer who needed to work out, but she was barred from the gym because she is under 16. Even with us offering to supervise her, the staff showed zero situational awareness or flexibility. Down at the beach, there was absolutely no enforcement by staff to manage unruly young adults and teenagers who were actively disturbing the peace with inappropriate behavior. While it did not completely ruin the atmosphere, it definitely took away from the overall experience. The Few Positives To be fair, there were a couple of highlights. The beach itself is amazing, and the resort grounds are beautiful—our morning walks around the property were fantastic. As a side note, the merchants selling wares on the beach actually pay rent to the resort. I am not sure if that is necessarily a bad thing, but we assumed they were independent locals trying to make a living until we asked. Ultimately, these few positives do not make up for the exorbitant costs and poor room conditions.
