"Location Excellent But Food Mediocre & Service Inconsistant"

6.0

Stayed here with Riviera Travel for 7 nights; our manager Alessandro was brilliant, so customer focused and nothing too much trouble for the 24 guests in our party. The hotel is situated lakeside on lake Como almost opposite the ferry terminal. The hotel has seen better days and in need of urgent refurbishment. Our room 455,lakeside on the 4th floor was good and with a large patio with two sunbeds and a table and chairs for two. There is a shortage of plug sockets with one in the bathroom and one at TV height of 6 feet. The bed was comfortable and the room serviced daily but the shower was very small and a large person would not fit in! The air con was excellent and hit the required temp but went off when key removed. Now for the disappointing bits re food and service Breakfast service was good and self service but the cooked buffet was served and cooked fresh; the two guys here were excellent, just ask them if you wanted more. Breakfast starts at 0630 each day but one day they changed the time to 0700 when we had an early start but did not inform us the night before. Dinner is something else. There is the main dining room on the first floor and the a la carte restaurant N26 ground floor adjacent to the hotel and a Pizzeria on the second floor. The main dining room the service was always good the waiters helpful but the food is basic; one evening the veal stew was inedible with fat and gristle. The starter was buffet style with the main course and dessert being served. The N26, which through Riviera Travel was another dinner option offered free of charge, but had to be booked the previous day. The food here was better but on several occasions the service was poor. On the menu there was other food available but at a a surcharge, which was quite reasonable. However if you wanted these better dishes then the waiter and the N26 manager approached you to ensure you knew you had to pay; not what you would expect when it was clearly displayed on the menu. The Pizzeria was poor as the food appeared not to be freshly made; starter you had to get from the main restaurant with the desert being served from there by by the waiter. I would have given 2 star except for the hotel's location. Finally Alessandro. our Tour Manager, who liaised with the hotel did an outstanding job to ensure she dealt with any issues. She is an excellent Ambassador for Riviera Travel. Thank you Alessandro for all your hard work to give us a great holiday

"Super Hotel !"

10.0

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Hotel Bazzoni. The hotel is located in a fabulous spot. We had two rooms, one upgrade to a sea view and the other a standard. Both rooms were lovely and clean and cleaned every day. We were half board and the food was varied and very tasty. The staff are so lovely and friendly. They all provide an excellent service. We could not have asked for more and would definitely recommend staying at Hotel Bazzoni. We are not sure why there are negative reviews on here? They must have been staying at a different hotel!

"Great location, disappointing hotel."

4.0

We stayed here for one week with Riviera Travel (an excellent tour led by the brilliant Matt). The hotel location is good, on the waterfront and close to a ferry stop. The road outside can get busy, and noisy. We opted for a lake view room with balcony which was small but clean; room 304 had amazing views across the lake. Lake view terrace rooms are also available,  and these appear to be larger rooms than ours but on lower floors. Not many plug sockets in our room (old part of hotel) but apparently some rooms have a UK socket and USB chargers; not ours though, but we had brought a short extension lead and a couple of EU 2 pin USB plugs, so coped. Our room had a fridge, but no tea/ coffee making equipment. Bathroom had a very small shower, basin, wc and bidet. Towels are changed daily.  The hotel food was disappointing. We were half board but were tempted to try other restaurants. There is a main restaurant on the first floor, offering a buffet starter then set meal (table service) for following courses.  The buffet was limited,  but service for following courses OK.  The mezzanine in this restaurant serves pizzas after the same buffet starter, we found the pizzas poor and tasteless and only ate there once. The N26 a la carte restaurant on the ground floor is a little better, offering a similar set menu but additional options for each course.  We could reserve a table in here the day before, and it was included in our half board package. The food is carried across from the main hotel kitchen, and the service was haphazard at times with lengthy waits between courses.  Identical starters (based on half a carrot) were served hot one day, then cold the next! We got the impression that the restaurant was trying to be something it wasn't,  with an expensive taster menu on offer for non hotel guests. We had an unfortunate experience one evening when the manager came to our table and told us we didn't have a reservation; we had started our meal and he spoke loud enough for people around us to hear. We had got a reservation,  we subsequently discovered when complaining to reception that there had been an administrative slip up between front desk and restaurant. Breakfast was buffet style in the first floor restaurant, with limited options, but just about adequate. The orange juice was weak, there were no hot items on the buffet, but these could be obtained from the chef at the grill counter where omelettes and eggs were cooked to order.  Service was quick and friendly. There is a small swimming pool behind the hotel and lawn areas for sunbathing. The pool was open daily but the pool and lawn areas needed some TLC, and a rooftop bar/ solarium we discovered seemed closed. The staff were friendly, the bar area nice. There are lifts (small and slow) but also a lot of steps; the pool area for instance can't be accessed without climbing stairs. Overall it was an adequate hotel stay let down by the food offering and sunbathing areas that were either not open or need some attention.

"Faulty Towers two"

2.0

We went with Riviera Travel. The hotel has a good location and we had a lovely view from our balcony, unfortunately that is where the good review ends. The food in the main restaurant is poor, the menu reads like nonsense and you are left wondering what will actually come out. In relation to the rooms there are no fittings in the small shower and we had to put our toiletries on the floor, the sink was not fixed and the low glass shelf above was also not secure and leaning down. The two hotel lifts are extremely slow which was annoying to the elderly guests. In the main the staff try hard and are pleasant.

"Two stars for two star hotel "

4.0

Scruffy mismanaged hotel with some good points and lots of worthy criticism. To get it out of the way excellent position the rooms were sort of clean(don't look under bed) and towels changed daily the beds were comfortable and the views of the lake from our first floor terrace room were fabulous - oh and the bar area was quite pleasant but noisy at night with rubbish entertainment unfortunately directly underneath our room. Otherwise I have long list of criticisms which really undermine what could be a really good mid price hotel It's all a bit faulty towers with cobwebs and broken light fittings disorganised at meal times random food counters with basic low quality food nobody is managing the hotel to any kind if acceptable standard things fall off or don't work and nobody on the management side quite gets it - completely lost sight of how obviously rubbish the presentation is so doing what they always do with same rubbish result. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day. Trying to shower standing in a slippery curvy bath and shower head below my shoulder was positively dangerous would not be allowed in UK - somebody will slip and fall it's inevitable - no sensible screen so water all over the bathroom the doors that were supposed to screen were hanging off. So I sat down in the bath to see if I could control the spray but then found I couldn't get out of the deep curvy bathtub with wet slippery hands - no flat surface or grab rail to help me. Trust me there is a serious accident waiting to happen. If not the shower it will be someone cutting their forehead on the glass shelf shelf which is cleverly positioned above the wash basin so you cannot lift water from the basin to your face and so on first use banging your head on the edge of the transparent shelf is inevitable. After a few days practice you can learn to twist and contort to mitigate these dangers but always with water all over the floor good job towels get changed daily. Air conditioning basic split unit cold enough but freezing draft directly onto the bed very uncomfortable. Noisy room but to be expected. Restaurant was feeding time at the zoo or school dinners choose your metaphor. So random so bland - food and ambience - just not what you should get from a budget hotel in Europe. Read the other Low star reviews below all true I won't repeat (dont understand the 5 star reviewers they need to get out more) The fine dining restaurant M62 or something was a possible good alternative to the school dinners upstairs but turned out to be a bit bizarre. It felt like the chef has been watching masterchef and fancied a go at haut cuisine without really having ever done it before. So in short nice environment pity about the food. Carrot osobuko caused a lot of merriment at our table it was effectively half a carrot cut end ways with a bit of something smeared down the middle - looked like a carrot tasted like a carrot was a carrot not quite sure where the osobuko connection was but very typical of many courses odd and not particularly haut, beef slab (8 euros extra) was quite nice slab overcooked on one side with one large chip. So we tried twice knowing what was OK but didn't go back preferring average pizza with a view and school dinners with a view once we found the outside terrace and jug of house red marvelling at the lake and mountains but personally I couldn't take my eyes off the lantern light fitting hanging off it's mount and covered in cobwebs - hadn't seen attention for years. So lake Como is beautiful and we had a good week spent all our time in the hotel moaning about it or laughing about it in equal parts. Such a great spot and could be really good three star but someone in the hotel needs to have a hard fresh look at what they do day after day and make significant changes to front of house operations then the five star reviews below would make more sense

"Great location for seeing Lake Como but hotel management and services could be so much better - lacks finesse, only 2*"

4.0

Stayed with Riviera Travel and this hotel is a step down from their normal standard. Paid extra for a 1st floor balcony terrace room with lake view which was lovely and we could avoid using the tiny, slow lifts. Room clean enough but bathroom aged and bath/shower very dangerous (no mat) and water sprays everywhere. Shower arrangement only suits very short people and runs unexpectedly hot/cold. Best thing about the hotel is its location which gives easy access to the passenger and car ferries for trips around the central lake triangle and Como town. The restaurants offer terraces for dining from which you can enjoy the view but road noise can be intrusive as well as bar/restaurant activity. The most disappointing aspect of the hotel was the food offering. Italian holidays are as much about the culinary experience but don’t hold your breath if you’re expecting this. The kitchen/waiting staff are not Italian and the food presented is a poor attempt to offer authentic Italian cuisine. It’s mostly poorly presented insipid varieties of simple Italian basics - but we were on half board so can’t comment on value for money. Don’t be tempted by the No26 restaurant option - you are offered a four course tiny portion set menu (a misguided attempt at a ‘taster’ menu) or you are ripped off with exorbitant a la carte steak options. There are enough restaurant options a few minutes walk away where you’ll get a better and more authentic dining experience - and great gelati!! On the whole I would not grade this as 3 star because of the sub- standard bathroom and food offering - but if you’re prepared to accept this as there are not many sub-5 star hotels along this stretch of lake, forget the inclusive dinner option and eat out in proper Italian style.

"In summary we really enjoyed the warm welcoming atmosphere, spectacular views and plentiful good food."

8.0

RIght on the Lake front, and what a magical lake Como is. Hotel Bazzoni has had a complete refurb a few years ago and is as their website shows. Our room's bathroom was modern and quite a good size, but the rest of the room not so modern. That said it was clean, had effective air conditioning down to 18 Degrees, a big wardrobe with hangers and a safe inside (no charge), a good size desk and bed with bedside tables. No kettle or coffee maker. We had a covered balcony and that gave us more space and breath taking views over this first in class lake. The fine dining 'Gallery' photos are from its fine dining restaurant 'No. 29' in front of the hotel and not the dining room where you will eat if you book half or full board. Anyone can dine in No. 29 but you pay. As we were half board we did not, but the menu there looked really high class!. The food in the main dining room where we ate was good, plentiful with lots of choice, and promptly served by good English speaking polite waiters. The serving staff throughout the hotel were excellent. The restaurant manager, Mila, is a star. She personally catered for our rare Onion allergy and seems to work 12 hours a day. Thank you Mila. Note that the wall sockets are Italian Type L and require a 3 round pin plug. We had 2 pin to UK socket adapters and they would not fit, so check you have the right adapters. There are several other restaurants in Tremezzo and the fabulous Villa Carlotta and Gardens (15 Euros), all with a short stroll. A C10 bus to Argengno is a good, cheap half day out. Using the ferries, which in the high season can be packed to the gunwales, be careful to ensure your ferry actually goes, in one trip, to where you want to go and how many stops it takes to get there. Buy a return ticket to avoid queuing for tickets twice; the queues can be 80 yards long in the sun and chaotic! We faile on both accounts and ending up having to buy additonal tickets and queuing for well over an hour in total ! In summary we really enjoyed the warm welcoming atmosphere, spectacular views, and plentiful good food.
