The Glacier View Lodge was a lovely place situated right on an overlook of the Athabasca Glacier, about halfway between Lake Louise and Jasper on the Icefields Parkway. We stayed there one night and had an excellent experience. Our room was very spacious, well laid out, attractive and comfortable. We had a great view of the glacier from our room, and an even more spectacular view from the beautiful lobby of the hotel. We were welcomed there with a late afternoon cocktail and hors d'oeuvres. We also had a fine dinner in their restaurant, Altitude. A special shout out to Bronte at the front desk who went out of her way to be kind and helpful and is obviously an outstanding employee.

The location was absolutely incredible. You can't beat that. Staff was excellent and helpful. Loved it.

You pay for the location.

We stayed at the Glacier View Lodge in July, 2025. We had a great stay. The rooms are large and the central lobby was comfortable. They served small plates of food at 4:00pm. The lodge is located inside the Discovery Center making it very convenient to the Icefield Experiences. We left Lake Louise in the morning and stopped to see several sites along the way and booked a 2:00pm Columbia Icefield experience. The timing was great. We actually got into our room early and the parking for lodge is much more convenient than for the Icefield participants. We did not want to drive back to Banff that evening. We ate at the restaurant located in the Discovery Center (Altitude Restaurant). I made reservations in advance but they were not busy. There really are no other choices. The server was very nice, but the menu was pretty limited and they did not have one of the main entrees (Char). I would say the food was average. However, I highly recommend the lodge.

The room was awesome! We could watch the glacier change over the evening from our beds! Beds were very comfortable & couldn’t get a better location.

The restaurant had a very limited menu & the breakfast times were also limited, the parking was very confusing between the hotel & the discovery centre.

We stayed here after a full-day hike on the Alabasca Glacier because we thought we wouldn’t want to drive back to Lake Louise. We probably could have driven in the end, but I’m glad we chose to stay here. The view from our king glacier view room was amazing, and I really liked the coffee machine in reception because it also made hot chocolate. The best part, though, was the location. Because we stayed right by the glacier, we hiked Sunwapta Falls and Parker Ridge the next morning before heading south with minimal driving. You really can’t beat it. Our room was big, the view was great, and the bed was comfortable, but as other reviews have noted, the water pressure was glitchy (to say the least) and the power went out at one point. We were also in room 305, which is right next to reception, and people were LOUD late at night and early in the morning. I had ear plugs so it didn’t bother me, but my husband was annoyed. All of this is to say you are paying for the location, and if you go in with that instead of expecting a luxury accommodation you’ll be happy.
