"Richmond hotel, Torquay "

8.0

Nice sea view, sitting on the balcony or looking through “patio” doors (although hard to slide open/shut). A comfortable bed, clean linen. Bedroom needed a little sprucing up, one arm chair very worn and also dressing table surface. However it is understandable that maintaining everything perfectly in the current economic climate is difficult. Good breakfast, very reasonably priced. Tea & coffee making facilities in room. Clean towels/house keeping daily. Nice traditional building. Clanging door on the lift was very loud when it closed. The shower was probably the worst thing about it, either boiling hot or cold - very hard to regulate and no power in the spray. Other than that we enjoyed our stay and would visit again.

"Absolutely disgusting"

2.0

This 'hotel' was in our opinion without doubt, the worst form of accommodation we have ever had the misfortune to be exposed to. We feel this establishment is in such a dire state of disrepair and distress that it is bordering on not being fit for human habitation. We suspect that the majority of 'guests' are DSS customers who are in temporary accommodation and have to choose between a roof over their heads and being homeless on the streets. In many situations we believe a street setting would be more cheerful than this hideous monstrosity of an establishment. We stayed one night out of our two nights with great reluctance, and left promptly in the morning - preferring to cut short our trip rather than expose ourselves to this tortuous abode any longer. It's important to note that we feel the neighbourhood and immediate area is not suitable for families at all. We counted at least 7 homeless/drunk/addicts wandering the local roads. Perhaps given the state of the local properties it is reasonable for some to suspect these unfortunates may be 'residents' of the local hostels. The middle aged chap who greeted us on arrival at the front desk was however, quite pleasant. Unfortunately, the Spanish clerk was extremely rude and discourteous.

Staff were friendly and helpful. This did not make up for the fact that the room was quite dirty and needs an update. The wall next to the bed was very stained and offputting.
