The Kala Samui

The Kala Resort and Spa will create this serene environment that will make you feel as if it is safe to let go of your worries. And, when they know you have let your guard down, they will treat you to a relaxing spa that where the staff will take full advantage of you by strategically rummaging through your room and pants that are in the massage room. They know your money is either on you or somewhere in your room because both rooms we stayed in (the deluxe and villa) the safes did not work, ironic right? My boyfriend and I are recent college graduates that saved up money over the last year from our first job out of school to go to Thailand, our first time abroad.  It was at the Kala that they stole our hard earned money.  The staff at both the spa and resort were smart about only taking the large USD and Baht, making it seem like we had our money when we checked before leaving. Sadly, when we had gotten to the airport and needed to make a purchase, we quickly realized that we were broke.  After contacting the management and island police we have had no success of getting the money back and are out a total of $2,000 USD.

our first hotel in our vacation and i can say that was the best choice for us. staf is so lovely. room was wonderful, so is the pool. food was great !! between lamai and chaweng this is the best choice for you. enjoy :)

Nice hotel. Arrived too early to check in, but had facilities to change so we good stay at the pool. Lots of steps on the property. Nice pool, only a few sun loungers though. You can kayak to a small beach very close by, but there are lots of rocks. We had a seaview room, which was spacious, nice rustic bathroom. Nice size balcony. Breakfast was ok, hot food was cooked to order and you could help yourself to a small buffet selection, toast, juice, fruit, yoghurt etc... didn't have much interaction with the staff, some smiled, some didn't. Nice (tall) young man at breakfast, he was always pleasant. Food was quite expensive we had an evening meal here roughly £30, one dish we ordered was chicken and mushrooms arrived without the mushrooms. Location was fine for us, it's quiet not much going on, drive maybe 15 mins each way for bars, shops etc. Hired a bike through the hotel.

Have stayed at Kala Samui twice now and will stay again next year. The hotel is set on a cliff and build into the side of a granite boulder hill. The rooms are spacious and very clean and tidy with a huge deep soak bath. The hotel is a little way out of Chaweng and all the noise however; you can hire motorcycles from the hotel and ride (10 mins) into Chaweng and do some shopping or go to the beach bars. Unfortunately, there is no beach directly in front of the hotel but you can snorkel right in front of the hotel and there are soft corals and sea life to see without leaving the hotel. You do have free access to the kayaks and can paddle to a local swimming beach however, we booked the kayaks twice and unfortunately, they were out. Think it is more of a first in best dressed. The hotel manager Michelle was incredibly helpful and very accommodating when we needed information about the area and made us feel very welcome. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and relaxing stay and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

I wondered how this hotel got the numerous excellent review?! perhaps other rooms really is different from the one I stayed? Where else do you get door still using padlock? The room smelled of dust and the smell penetrated into the clothing long after I have returned to my country. The aircon is also noisy The view is blocked by a big tree (so much for the seaview) and if you think you can get a better view at the pool? Forget it! It's blocked by a big tree as well! And more about the room, beware! As I found a cockroach crawling on the wooden door! There are no shower head to be found at the shower by the way, only a big fixed shower on the ceiling The king size bed is 2 single bed joined together and the bed and pillow is as uncomfortable as you can imagine The cable tv only have a few channel (not even 1 movie channel) so forget it if you thought you can enjoy some movie before you sleep (there are no DVD players by the way) The BBQ dinner was shocking! Except for the free flow wine, there is nothing much on offer, shrimps and squids are as small as you get and doesn't get cook properly as well, the show provided are by the various departments, although I must applaud their enthusiasm, it feels kind like their own dinner and dance to me. Oh, I haven't mentioned that a cockroach was crawling on a plate of papaya as well! Absolutely disappointed for the amount paid, my honest and real advise for staying at this hotel: try it at your own risk! NEVER again for me!

We called about the smell of the room immediately upon check in. They came with a candle which did nothing. We called again and they sprayed half a can of air fresher which was a temporary fix.

Two main buildings where the rooms are are situated right on the ring road, so the sound of traffic is terrible and non stop. There is no access to the beach. The stuff hardly speaks any English so its impossible to discuss any problem or anything at all. The rooms are not cleaned properly and the bed sheets were not changed once in 10 days. There was no wi-fi in the room. It showed network, but only worked from the reception area. Breakfasts were horrendous and the first day breakfast was not included for some reason. I asked for the wake up call on the last day - nobody called.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Wi-Fi connection is great. The view of the sea is simply beautiful. But property isn't disabled friendly.
