Pier House

My stay at The Pier House in Charlestown was a bit of a mixed experience. The initial interactions with staff on arrival were friendly and welcoming, and check-in went smoothly. The room itself was clean and generally comfortable, although a little on the tight side. There was also some mould visible at the base of the shower, which wasn’t ideal, but given that the hotel is rated three stars it’s the sort of thing I could overlook for a short stay. Unfortunately, the main issue came later in the evening. When I checked in, I specifically asked whether I needed to book a table for the restaurant. I was told that I didn’t need a reservation as it wasn’t expected to be busy that night. After returning from the funeral I was attending, I had a shower and then went down to the bar intending to have dinner. At that point I was told that the restaurant was actually full. I was advised that if I could find a table in the bar area without a reservation then I could eat there instead. However, there were no tables available in the bar either, which left me with no option for dinner at the hotel. This was particularly frustrating as I had asked the question earlier in the day and relied on the information given. Had I been advised to book, I would have done so or made alternative plans. It felt like a lack of coordination between staff and ultimately meant ending the evening by having to look elsewhere for food after a long and emotional day. Overall, while the welcome and room were acceptable, the poor communication around restaurant availability left a disappointing impression of the stay.

We had a fantastic stay here. The hotel is right next to the sea and we booked a sea view room which was excellent. The hotel looks as though it has recently been renovated and the fixtures, fittings and decoration all look brand new and very stylish. The breakfast was one of the best we've had at a hotel and the staff made us feel at home from the second we walked in. We'll be back.

Recently stayed here for a midweek mini break. No car parking at hotel/pub but as we were out of season most times we went out we were able to get parking outside entrance. If not you can park at sister hotel/pub just 5mins away. Throughout our stay all the staff were really welcoming & friendly. Our Room number 13 was one of the dog friendly rooms. Sadly no view from the room, but no worries as we were out & about most of the time. Every thing you needed was is the room & room was also tastefully decorated. The only odd thing we found was that toilet & shower facilities were up a fairly steep flight of stairs 😳 This was also where you had to store most of your clothes & bits and pieces as there is limited storage of the bedroom floor.

Always a pleasure to stay, rooms are excellent, food is well priced and very good quality , the staff friendly and helpful.

Cozy room with comfy bed and wonderful views. Love the decor. Staff were amazing, friendly and professional. Felt they would go the extra mile if needed - five star welcome and service to match. Decor lovely in all the areas and our room. Winter break deal is great value. Highly recommend booking for an evening meal as busy. Good choice on menu. Breakfast was delicious too. Second visit and would not hesitate to go back.

My review would have been identical to the one sent on by CWCC in January. It looks like we had the same room for the same number of nights and had the same opinion. But in addition we must state the tremendous value of the offer. We have paid more than double for level of accommodation and service. Also the breakfast, although standard, was outstanding. Should we go back to Cornwall we would consider the Pier House to be an ideal base in all respects.

Took my mother there for lunch on her birthday on January 10th 2026. I treated her to the mussels dish from the main meal menu and her mussels came out like they were swimming in water. There was no consistency to the sauce and had no flavour at all. I complained and after a while of waiting, the attendant came back from the kitchen saying the chef didn't have time to look into it so nothing got resolved. Mussels didn't even come with chips, just a measly tiny bit of bread. Nothing near enough substantial to soak up the bland sauce. Poor customer service especially when the chef he didn't have time to look into it so he obviously didn't care. That to me is poor customer service especially when even an apology at the very least was not offered. Avoid this place, it's overpriced and service is terrible. Oh, and it was freezing cold in the restaurant too as the doors leading to the terrace were wide open the whole time we were there. It was that cold, we couldn't take it coats off to eat our meals!

We stayed for one night. Absolutely beautiful room (standard double) which had stairs up to the bathroom. The sink was standalone, with a separate toilet in a side room and an ENORMOUS shower on the other side. I think it was about 12 feet long. The room was comfortable, clean and had everything you would need including a bottle of water, coffee machine and pods, fridge and mini bar, etc. We absolutely loved our stay.

Booked a table for two on Saturday the the 16th of January, got a drink on arrival and then shown to our table. We both ordered steak. I like mine rare and my partner had medium rare, and they where cooked perfectly the staff where very welcoming too. It was clean and just a perfect night out

Popped in for a light lunch. Decor and atmosphere nice. Service excellent. My partner ordered the 'seasonal soup' (country vegetable £9) she said portion was quite small and fairly tasteless but ciabatta was nice. I ordered Salmon and dill mascapone facaccia (£13) filling was nice but I think the facaccia had been taken from the freezer as it was damp tasteless. Frankly, a sandwich from the local supermarket would have been more enjoyable and much better value. The americano coffee was nice.  Overall a very disappointing meal.
