"Feels like home!"

10.0

We love this Marriott! We own a 2 bedroom timeshare here so all of our feelings are based on that fact. The property is consistently being updated and the pool is truly the best in all of Hawaii- it’s enormous. The views of Kalapaki beach are stunning. All of the servers at Kukui’s for breakfast are so kind and efficient! We love lounging in the outdoor space above the pool, walking around the koi ponds and our requests for amenities are always addressed immediately. We don’t love the bathrooms but they are all slowly being updated. Can’t wait for our next visit.

We come to this beautiful property every year and have never been disappointed. I understand some owners have complained about the partnership with the Royal Sonesta and I just don't get it! So you can't charge food and drinks to your room, WOW! On our most recent trip we stayed in the Kilohana tower and the room refresh was fantastic. The room was spotless and the new touches were great. The overall appearance of the property was excellent and you can definitely see the Sonesta has put in the finances to keep things looking fresh. The staff, both Marriott and Sonesta are always kind and welcoming and we always enjoy seeing the familiar faces. The ease of getting to and from the airport to the property makes it an even bigger bonus. We now use the shuttle back and forth and have a Turo rental in the parking lot when we arrive. The descriptions are extremely accurate for every room, just do your research and you won't be disappointed. Till next year!

We paid for ocean front room. We got a partial ocean view. I asked why. They said 90% of the rooms are time-shares. The remaining best rooms go to people who book directly with them. 3rd party booking like Expedia get the worst rooms! Won't go there again. Probably won't use Expedia again either!

"Highly priced and overvalued ocean front view and premium pool."

5.0

The property is pristine with an amazing location right at the beach and five minutes from the airport. The pool and the aesthetics were extremely well-maintained so is the Koi fish pond and other aesthetic set up inside. Having a kids pool separate and koi pond inside the property was a plus.

This is probably the most complicated property inside to navigate. The entire sharing arrangement between Royal Sonesta and Marriott is confusing. The main check-in is not your check-in if you reserved by Marriott and requires you to go to a separate desk. The next problem is the check in time of 4 PM but check out of 10 AM. This is ridiculous as it takes value away from a very highly priced nightly rate. The on-site concierge although great is not always available inside the unit. The HVAC system is weirdly programmed specially if you have a villa, it calls the thermostat at certain degree and you cannot make it warmer if needed. It takes a lot of time to get from the parking to your Marriott side of the Villa on a daily basis. For the nightly rate, you can get a much more high-end villa anywhere across the globe and a seven star service at the click of your fingertips while the state was good, the value was not

"A SOLID "B" Grade Choice in a Gorgeous Setting"

8.0

First and foremost, I am NOT an owner. I am a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite who redeemed points for my 5 night stay. I DO think owners get the BEST locations for rooms, and that is just how they roll. I was in room #722, directly across from the elevator. Fortunately(?), I have a bad hearing problem, so I heard nothing! LOL. Check in was easy, and they did allow me to check in about 30 minutes early at 3:30pm. Upon check in, I requested daily cleaning every day at 10 am. That only occurred 50% of the time. I had to call and text on multiple occasions to receive my "tidy" cleaning. My room was very basic but CLEAN. I had a "guest" room and NOT the "parlour" so I had a real KING bed that was comfy! The bathrooms are VERY small and I had a "French" balcony so I could NOT sit on a lanai. That said, the view was very nice. There are absolutely NO upgrades here for Platinum members so DON'T expect one. It will NOT happen. They share a fitness room with Royal Sonests that is 99% cardio. They need weight machines! Fitness is open 24/7 which is NICE. Laundry room is available for a fee and all machines were working! Every employee was POLITE and said, "ALOHA" when I would pass by! Food on site was good. The ladies at Kukui's in the am for breakfast are SO nice. The same goes for the ladies at the Royal Lanai coffee bar...such sweet ladies! Duke's is still very good, and Cafe Portofino was surprisingly good! Bottom Line: It's a solid B garde for me. Good, but NOT excellent. I would not try to put more than 2 people in one of the guest rooms. They do have a 1 bedroom unit that I have stayed in with my son, and he got the "parlour" part of the 1 bedroom which worked nicely for privacy. I would return using points. It's Kauai. The grounds are gorgeous. The people are full of ALOHA. I'm willing to overlook some of the limitations of the rooms.

"UGLY Rooms, BAD Service, TINY bathrooms"

2.0

Where do I begin? (1) The rooms here are UGLY. You can not tell you are in Hawaii, you might as well be at an airport hotel. The photos online do not match the current rooms. We were told those are old photos, but I don’t blame them because the remodel is far worse! White walls, black carpet and a white duvet. So plain. Nothing welcoming or tropical. (2) FURTHERMORE and most importantly, this is a vacation club. What that means is anyone who is an owner/timeshare owner, they get top priority for rooms. We booked an Oceanfront w/ balcony in January and when we arrived in June we were given partial oceanfront (1/2 ocean and the rest roof and air conditioner unit) with no balcony. When my husband and I complained about this, even though he is a lifetime Titainium member, there was no help, but we did get a free box of chocolate for our trouble and never heard from them again, even though we were told they would “try” to move us. We let them know they should have at bare minimum reached out to let us know our booked room type with being given to an owner and we could have then made a reservation at another hotel. (3) The service here is mediocre. Nothing special. It actually feels understaffed. A lot of wait time for service at bar and pool area. Can easily wait 45 min-1 hour before you see a server at the pool. (4) Room bathrooms are tiny! 1 tiny sink, a toilet squeezed in right inbetween the tiny sink and tub shower w/curtain. I guarantee the bathroom in my first apt when I was 20 was larger. (5) barely any shade at pool. There are enough large umbrellas for about 30% of the chairs. Of course those are all taken by 8am. The other 70% has no shade and you’re guaranteed a nice sunburn after 1 day. (6) “Room Service” if you can call it that is “to go” cartons, plastic forks delivered in a paper bag. To top it off, the order wasn’t correct, but that was not surprising after everything we had already experienced. (7) The set up is strange. It’s a combination of The Royal Sonesta and The Marriott VACATION club. Therefore you can not charge to your room, ever. You better always be carrying your wallet with you. (8) Staying at this hotel ruined our entire trip. We traveled from the East coast all the way there, for ugly, tiny rooms, was bumped from our original room type without notice & overall bad service. We ended up moving from the hotel mid way though - which was a total and complete pain. Had to be out by 10am instead of enjoying the day. We went to the Koala Landing Marriott and it was 100xs better. I highly recommend Koala Landing. At least the end of the trip was somewhat salvageable by leaving and switching hotels. ZERO STARS for Kauai Beach Club!!

"Beware"

2.0

Disappointing, dishonest, and unethical customer service. We travel to Kauai every year and have had great experiences in the past with Marriott, but this has completely changed our views. We made a prepaid reservation that had to be cancelled and rebooked at another Marriott property a few miles away. It was a non-refundable reservation; however I explained the situation to a Marriott employee, spent 1/2 hour on the phone with an him, and he assured me that if I cancelled, the money would be refunded since I was booking at another property. I confirmed this with the employee multiple times during our conversation. Relying upon this, I made another prepaid reservation at the different property a few miles away and the employee cancelled my original booking. The hotel of the original booking is now refusing to honor what their employee promised and will not refund the charge. I have been a Marriott customer for years and am shocked they won’t stand by what their employee promised. I’ve now had to pay for two full bookings. I will not be booking with Marriott in the future.

"Add A Washer and Dryer to the room and it is perfect"

This is a converted hotel but spectacular grounds. Rooms are spacious. The only drawback is no in room washer and dryers. All in all a great stay for our family.
