The fact that you pay $500 a night to have a Murphy bed that you have to set up every night is ridiculous. It’s a beautiful property but overpriced.

"Distinctly Average!"

6.0

The property is a confusing blend of two resorts on one site, with the Marriott appearing to be a tenant of The Royal Sonesta Kaua'i Resort who operates most, if not all the facilities. As a result, the property isn’t the easiest to navigate, the Marriott’s check in is in an odd office further down from the Royal Sonesta’s grand lobby - a reasonable walk from both the car park and main entrance. Our perspective was the resort appears to be an entry level property for Marriott Vacation Clubs, a relatively average resort which places an emphasis on timeshare sales to act as a gateway to the grander Vacation Club properties on the island (and beyond). This was noticeable in the sales team on the site who were more present and engaging than other Vacation Club properties. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to keep in mind. Pro’s: - Huge swimming pool, accommodates a significant number of guests - The poolside service was great with attentive staff - Convenient location for the airport (8 minutes) - The room and resort grounds were clean and tidy. Con’s: - Sub standard rooms. The rooms are small, more akin to an airport hotel than a resort. The bathrooms in the tactfully named ‘parlour’ rooms are tiny and are hard to use. While the wall beds are convenient and a clever use of a small amount of space, the beds themselves are not overly comfortable and are very small - As other reviews have mentioned, some ocean view rooms are some what obstructed (to varying degrees) by a view of the resort roof - The property is oddly laid out and awkward to navigate, expect long walks to the car park, Marriott lobby, and other facilities - The beach the resort faces is not the best for snorkelling or swimming. Rip tides are frequently present, and the other end of the beach has direct public access. There were several unhoused individuals camping/ washing/ socialising at the other end of the beach throughout our stay. Put candidly, the beach simply isn’t one of Kauai’s finest and doesn’t come close to the likes of Poipu Beach some 20 minutes north. Don’t book expecting the resort beach to reflect the amazing beaches the island has to offer. Overall, a distinctly average resort. The small rooms and lack of flexibility in room type, combined with a sub-par location, leads me to not recommend this property in what is a competitive resort scene on the island (even within the Vacation Club offerings). Consider a resort further away from the airport, in a less industrial area, with a wider array of more spacious room types.

Please be aware this hotel will not work with you in any way if you have a medical need to cancel. They will not allow you to move to another date nor will they offer a future discount for you losing $3500.00. All we heard is we only follow company policy. Andaz Hotel on Maui was great and worked with us. Delta did their best to help us reschedule. Not the case with this hotel. Spoke to reservations and guest relations manager and neither seemed to care. Stay at a traditional hotel and avoid time share properties if at all possible.

"Beautiful beach front hotel"

10.0

Celebrated my wife’s 50th birthday on Kauai and stayed at this Marriott property. Great views from the room, staff that showed the true aloha spirit, food, drinks and warm Hawaiian sun made it perfect. Hotel rooms are not bad, we were in a lock off so it was a bit tight in the bathroom. But honestly I didn’t fly across the ocean to hang out in the bathroom. I would avoid Duke’s on the hotel grounds. Sorry to say but the staff - primarily the hostesses were rude and obnoxious teenagers and had no respect for anyone. Instead checkout Lilikoi and The Naughty Rooster - they are within a short walking distance - great staff - aloha spirit flows - and delicious food and drinks…. But other than that. Amazing time. Well worth it and we will back next year.

We did not get the room we paid for. Had to sleep on a Murphy bed, in a small outdated room. We checked out and they said we couldn’t get the rate we were quoted because we checked out and made us pay $ 300. MORE for early check out. The room ended up costing us over $ 700!!! For one night in a room we didn’t reserve.
