The Old Phuket - Karon Beach Resort

Checked on early. Nice room. Quiet . Lovely. Hard working staff.

Our second stay here, and the hotel is starting to look a little worn. The hotel is in a great location, only 5 minute walk to the beach. If you leave out of the rear entrance there are some fab places to eat (Elephant Cafe) and a great family friendly bar, Roadhouse.

Allowed us to check in early after a very long flight. There was a slight mix up in bookings which meant that we got a free upgrade. Staff were very helpful.

Right from the beginning we were welcomed with friendly Thai hospitality. The staff were always willing to help. Security was refreshingly honest without being overbearing. They made us feel safe and free to enjoy ourselves without worrying about our safety or the security of our belongings. They were also good for a laugh as we limbo'd under the entry gate on our way in and out of the hotel on another great evening. We loved the traditional Thai colonial charm and character of the place and especially enjoyed the outdoor shower in our Deluxe Villa room. It's not a 5 star modern hotel with all the bells and whistles. But if you want a comfortable, clean, stylish place to stay with fantastic access to the beach and Karon town, then you can't go past The Old Phuket. We'll be back.

Terrible front desk service at check-in. The ladies at the counter behave like they would much rather be elsewhere. Breakfast is a rip-off at THB500. Suggest dining at more pleasant cafes just outside the hotel. Hotel compound is charming and pool is pleasant. However dirty room with visible dust and stains on bed. Location is along Karon beach which is rather quiet and lifeless.

First they denied we had paid for daily buffet breakfast even though it was in the email & they made us sit at reception for nearly an hour while they decided whether to honor it or not...they did reluctantly. Then they charged us 500BHT to have a second room key even though there was 3 people in the room.Our first room had the aircon permanently set at 25 and it smelt of urine. The pillows, towels and sheets were grey and mould stained, and smelt awful. They wouldn't allow us extra pillows (or new ones that weren't hard and smelly) but did put a bed topper on the rock hard mattress- unfortunately the first one was covered in fresh growing mould but a second housekeeper came in thankfully and told the cleaner that that was unacceptable! They moved us the second day to a room where the aircon worked and was slightly less smelly so by having it set a low as possible as much as possible and buying a few air fresheners it was bearable. (We slept on our plane neck pillows) The grounds were ok, broken boards around the pool and it's only open until 7, the septic system was quite smelly a lot of the time. The buffet breakfast was good and the staff surprised our daughter with cupcakes and a song on her birthday which was lovely & we given vouchers to use at the local restaurants. There is a nice patrolled beach across the road,lots of restaurants,bars 7/11,atms,souvenir and massage shops within walking distance.

Traveling from Tasmania, Australia we were exhausted by the time we arrived at the hotel, although the staff were incredible in accommodating us. The rooms are beautiful, we stayed in a pool access room and it was great! Great poolside bar also. The hotel is right next to Karon Beach and many restaraunt sand shops in easy access! I would definitely recommend!

outside the hotel was some good restaurants and shopping 2 klm away beds where very hard staff where friendly and it was very clean a reasonable hotel for the price

This was our first hotel on our first ever trip to Thailand. Without much else to compare it to, we definitely enjoyed our stay. The hotel was very pleasant. The lobby is gorgeous. Room was very nice with a great shower. Pool was comfortable. The travel desk had lots of options for sight seeing and set us up with taxis (not cheap but most convenient way to get around). Highly recommend seeing the Big Buddah. From the mountain you can see half of Phuket. The hotel really had everything we needed, so any complaints were pretty minor. Wifi only worked during off-peak hours. The pool bar food was pedestrian, however the breakfast was fantastic. We booked a Terrace room with a garden view because we loved the traditional look. Upon a late night arrival they "upgraded" us to a modern room with a pool view but didn't tell us. When we got to the room we were too jet lagged and tired to care. We booked an extra night for a cheaper room, and they let us stay in the same room so that made up for it in the end. Not sure I would recommend Karon Beach of all the places in Phuket. Beach was a bit dirty, and most of the patrons were older Europeans. If you're set on Karon Beach the Old Phuket is a great place to stay.
