I cannot say enough about this lovely hotel and its staff. With beautiful views surrounding, an out of this world infinity pool and gorgeous quiet pool, delicious food, fun entertainment at night and the kindest, most thoughtful staff on earth, we loved our second day at the Michelangelo and plan on coming back every May for the remainder...! They say that it starts from the top down... and the hotel manager, Konstantinos is a gem. That said, everyone who works at this hotel is kind, generous, thoughtful, respectful and so helpful with everything you want or need. On this particular trip, I had a boating accident when I went out on the three island cruise and Konstantinos, Polidoros and the hotel staff could not do enough to help me and make me comfortable. They turned what might have been a real bummer into a beautiful stay at the hotel. The bartenders as well -Haris and Nick - just soooo sweet and thoughtful and always ready to deliver a cocktail to take my mind off the pain! That said, I ended up having a glorious vacation - even with the nasty accident. So on that note, I just want to say thank you again to the wonderful wonderful staff at Michelangelo .. we love you like family! Can't wait for next May! And extra hugs to Polidoros! Ellie in the UK

Returned from an 8-night stay at the Michelangelo resort a few days ago, not normally a person that writes reviews but felt it was necessary for people considering this hotel in the future. As someone who works in designing hotels I can assure you this is no way a 5 star resort, I'm not sure what some of the other reviews are on about or if they are even genuine. I would say it is a 4 star with aspects of a 3 star and 5 star. We had a couple of issues during our stay, mostly due to the cleaning standards of our room which I'll highlight further below. We had contacted reception about these issues on both arrival to the room and the following day. It then took until the day before we left for management to speak to us, while they did offer us all-inclusive wrist bands for the remainder of our stay this felt a bit 'too little, too late' and did not make up for the experience we had. First of all the positives: 1) Alina at the beach bar and the guys serving at the lobby bar are great, they make sure you are looked after, even during busy times. 2) The infinity pool and views across to Turkey are beautiful and can get some great pictures. Would recommend waking up early one day to watch the sunrise (this is also the only chance you will probably get to secure a sunbed by the pool too!) 3) The Mediterranean A la Carte restaurant was lovely, we went for dinner and breakfast during our stay. The food was of high quality and the service was excellent. The main restaurant food was fine too and usually plenty of options. 4) Kos Town is lovely to spend the evening wondering around, due to the hotel not living up to our expectations we spent most evenings here. There is a shuttle bus which stops outside the hotel and is €2 per person and takes about 20 minutes. Be aware the return journey later in the evening will be very busy, would recommend getting to the bus stop a good 20 minutes before departure time to get a seat. Now the issues we found and the negatives of this resort: 1) Upon check-in we found brown stains on the wall and black hair (we are both blonde) inside the toilet cubicle in our bathroom. We called to reception to ask for housekeeping to come and sort. We waited an hour and no one came, even after calling reception again and being told someone is on the way. We eventually gave up and went and found a housekeeper in the next block, who we communicated with via google translate. She tried her best but still was not of the level you would expect at a 5 star resort. 2) When complaining about the above issue to reception, they clearly never passed on the message. The following day when we went to complain after coming back to our room having been 'cleaned', this time with Ginger hair left in the bathroom. This time the receptionist wrote on some paper the issue and said he would pass it on. When we spoke to the manager later in our trip it became apparent this message was also never passed along. 3) Our entrance door to our room had large gaps either side at the bottom, meaning bugs could come in our room freely. We had to have flies in our bathroom for our entire stay as a result, even when killing them more would just come in the next day. The gaps also meant on windy days/nights the sound would whistle into the room and would make it harder to fall asleep, would definitely be problematic if you have children you are trying to get to sleep. 4) The hotel seems understaffed in certain areas, an issue we raised when we spoke with management and was quickly shut down. The housekeepers are always hard at work but it seems they are not allocated enough time to clean the rooms sufficiently. Also the main restaurant had service issues due to the allocation of staff being focused on the inside area. The terrace was often popular in the evenings, but there was usually only one person taking drink orders and 1 or 2 more cleaning tables. This meant on a number of occasions going to find cutlery (saw other guests doing the same) and also going most of the meal without a drink. One night our drinks didn't arrive until we were finishing dessert! This is not 5 star service. 5) As mentioned above, if you want to make most of the infinity pool good luck! You will have to get up very early. The day we watched the sunrise at 6am we saw people come and put towels down, then saw the same people come back at around 10:30/11. The hotel is meant to have a 45 minute rule for removing towels, but this is not carried out. Again, getting up early to fight over sunbeds is not something you expect at a 5 star resort and something you would expect in somewhere like Benidorm. We spent a majority of our holiday on the beach as there was always plenty of sun beds. 6) The hotel has a policy of changing bed sheets every other day, while a lot of 5 star resorts will do this daily it was not an issue. The issue arose when after 4 days of being into our holiday our sheets had still not been changed. We know because one of the pillows had a mark on it from my partners make-up and the housekeeper had just switched the pillows to hide it at the bottom. Again we asked reception why our room was not being cleaned sufficiently. 7) We had a seafront room overlooking the neighbouring Dimitra Beach hotel, would recommend as the view is great. However the design of the balconies means you have no privacy, it basically feels like a shared balcony with the neighbour. The only thing separating you is a waist high clear glass balustrade, the day we checked in I saw our neighbour lean over and look into our room having heard us arrive. Again at a 5 star resort this is not what you expect, admittedly this did not seem to be an issue for all balconies but still enough rooms will have the same issue. 8) The entertainment is very basic and minimal, would definitely be a bigger issue if you have children as there was not much to cater for them during our stay. The evening entertainment is only in the lobby bar, typically on between 20:00 - 22:00. Some nights it was not very engaging and most of the time people were playing cards and just sat there because there was no where else to go. That is why we went to Kos town in the evenings mostly. We did take drinks back to our balcony one night and listened to the entertainment at the neighbouring Dimitra hotel as this seemed better and went on till past 23:00. Again not what you would expect from a 5 star resort. 9) The hotel does not seem adequately designed for peak periods, the large infinity pool gets busy very quick and does not seem to have enough sun beds. If you want to watch the evening entertainment then you will need to be in the lobby bar by 19:30/20:00 and even earlier if you are a bigger group as it fills up very quickly. Some people had to resort to sitting in the main restaurant and watching from a distance. 10) The hotel was meant to be refurbished only a few years ago but already looks tired and dated in many areas. The main restaurant especially is very basic and canteen like, not luxurious at all. Overall we still had a good holiday because we made the most of it, but I would not return here and definitely not recommend staying here. I have seen in previous reviews that some other guests had similar issues, the hotel replies they will look into it, but it seems nothing changes. I would imagine when the star rating is next reviewed it will be demoted to a 4 star. For the way it is advertised and the prices they charge you are much better going elsewhere. If you are looking to go to Kos I would recommend the Atlantica Belvedere resort (Adults only) just outside Kardamaina instead.

"The kindest and most thoughtful staff in a glorious location"

10.0

I cannot say enough about this hotel and the lovely caring staff that run this magnificent resort. This is a beautiful resort with two wonderful pools, lovely food and entertainment and clean, spacious rooms. But the real charm is not only the breathtaking views- but the staff. It starts from the top and must generate down to every person on staff. Kind, thoughtful, playful, generous and hard working staff who cannot do enough for you. Konstantinos and Polidoros see to your every need and make sure you are always looked after. This was our second time at the Michelangelo and this time I had a small boating accident when I went on the three island cruise. The staff at Michelangelo were so incredible and helpful that I managed to have a beautiful vacation even after the accident. Even the bartenders were just adorable and lovely. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It’s a beautiful, relaxing and glorious vacation. Thank you all! See you next May. We love you like family ❤️ .

"One for the planners."

8.0

This review is for the over-thinkers out there. It answers all the questions I had before I came. For background we travelled as a family of 3 with a preschool child and stayed in a premium sea view room. Room Room is very clean and a nice standard and the views are breathtaking. I’m not a big fan of the frosted glass shower and toilet doors/walls but we’re not usually a lock the bathroom door kind of family so it was ok. Not a room I’d choose to stay in if travelling with friends though. Door lock inside the room doesn’t unlock if handle is double pressed from inside like most hotel doors do. (Anyone with little escape artists will understand why that is review-worthy) Fridge was not restocked but this was no big deal as there is mini market on site which sells 1.5L bottles for €1.50 (card or exact cash in mini market) The shower is not ideal for little ones as it’s very slippery. I had heard people say to take a paddling pool and fill that in shower to use as a bath. I didn’t bother doing this but wish I had. It would definitely have fit in the shower cubicle, however we made do and had our little one sit on the shower floor or hold our hand. Waterfall shower head is not very powerful but lower hand held shower head is very powerful. Once you figure out the dials it’s great. Sofa bed. Little one who has bed with rail at home is now too big for travel cot. 3rd bed was sofa bed and the arms were nice and long. Perfect to use as bed rail. Hairdryer in the bathroom was very good. It was so powerful I didn’t bother using the hairdryer I brought. There was one blackout curtain missing but fortunately the remaining one was just long enough to cover balcony doors. Bathroom window did not have any sort of blind or cover so we covered it with a towel to prevent sunlight pouring in at 5.30am. Hotel I’m very fussy so I’m not usually bothered if the food at the buffet restaurant is a bit repetitive but I did think there was a nice variety of food. I could always find something I liked and it wasn’t the same thing every time. We found it took a while to order drinks at meal times, especially at breakfast where there is no self service for hot drinks. We were half board so most days bought lunch from the Mediterranean a la carte restaurant near the pools. The prices are reasonable considering there is little else in walking distance. The portion sizes were good and food was delicious. The hotel is not very pushchair friendly as there are a lot of steps. There were 2 flights of stairs to our room and no lift. There is a lift in the main building but not in the buildings with sea views. We had someone from the hotel drive us to our room in a golf buggy and help us up the stairs with our luggage and pushchair. You can request a lift from the golf buggy at anytime but we usually just walked. The pools are lovely and the infinity pool is something special. The sun bed areas do get a bit crowded and they could definitely do with more sun loungers around the kids pool but it was easy enough to get a sun bed. Out and about Car rental. We rented a car from kosmos inside the hotel for €60 for the day (collect keys from 8:30 and return by 21:00). This included insurance and a car seat or booster for kids. I would recommend Zia if renting a car. Bus from hotel to kos town takes around 20 minutes. We did this a few times. Some journeys were free and some cost €2pp. Overall the hotel is lovely, it’s perfect for a chill by the pool holiday. I don’t think the hotel is 5 star but it’s unfortunately the little things that are letting the place down; missing curtains, not restocking water when they claim they will, difficult to order drinks at meal times.

This hotel is not a 5 star hotel... My husband and I have just returned from a 7 day stay at the Michelangelo for our honeymoon. We booked this last minute but very much based our decision to stay at the Michelangelo on the numerous 5 star ratings on Tripadvisor... We feel a bit misled with the reviews on this site and the 5 star rating this hotel has (including on the Tui website, which we booked through). We certainly do not think these ratings are justified. During our trip we experienced the following and thought a list would be the best way to share feedback to others who are contemplating a stay here: 1. There are three pools at this hotel. The main pool is the infinity pool which is truly spectacular, with views of Tukey, but very hard to get a sun lounger at. The other two pools are the quiet pool and the children's pool (the latter being the least popular, even for those with children). 2. We found that the sun loungers at the infinity pool were typically all claimed by 08:30am, although we realised that people were reserving their loungers and then not actually coming down to the use them until midday. We understand that there is a hotel policy which prevents this but seemingly none of the staff were bothered to enforce the hotel's policy. If you stay at the Michelangelo, we would recommend you aim to get a spot at the infinity pool at it is the best option at the hotel, but you will need to be ready to put a towel down first thing in the morning. 3. We spent two days at the quiet pool and, true to the hotel description, this is very quiet. There is no music, no entertainment and the pool bar is permanently closed. There are no staff or lifeguard manning this pool. If you want a drink, you have to go to the main bar inside the hotel. Avoid this pool if you can as there is little going on there and the pool itself is lacklustre. 4. There is a beach area which is shared with the hotel next door. As may be expected by those who have visited other Greek islands, the beach consists of pebbles so do not expect any sand. There is no Wi-Fi at the beach and again, music is limited to the beach bar, so there is no real ambience. It is a nice private beach but the beaches in the main parts of Kos are much better (and you can, in most beach bars, get a bed for free all day). 5. The beach bar is limited. My husband ordered a diet coke and it was flat. 6. Do not expect the bottled water to be cold in any of the bars. With the exception of the 1l glass bottles of water which can be purchased from the restaurants, our experience was that all the bottled water at the bars were warm. This was particularly frustrating for us as we were half board and paid for warm water. 7. If you are half board, please be aware that there is no where close by to the hotel which you can buy a light snack/sandwich at. Your options are to either pay for food at the hotel or to travel towards the Old Town for a meal. We had (wrongly) assumed that the supermarket down the road from the hotel would sell light snacks or sandwiches but it does not. 8. There are two al a carte restaurants at the hotel, each of which can be booked once if you are staying for 7 days - an Asian/sushi restaurant and a Mediterranean restaurant. The Asian/sushi restaurant was very good. However it is located at the children's pool and during our visit, the sprinklers came on mid-meal to the surprise of us and the waiters! One couple had to move as their table was completely soaked. We had to move our table out of the way of the sprinklers. The sprinklers remained for about 20 minutes until a maintenance man turned them off. There was no apology from any of the staff or the hotel. The Mediterranean restaurant is in a better location - above the infinity pool with great views, although the food is disappointing. That being said, both restaurants are much better than the main restaurant so do try to book these in at the earliest opportunity during your stay. 9. The main restaurant is very average. There was not a lot of variety in the food that was served in the 7 days we stayed there and it is very much canteen style. For breakfast, the staff were less attentive - we had to ask for cutlery and for coffees on multiple occasions when we were ignored by the staff. 10. The entertainment during the day and on an evening was not great. The day time entertainment consisted of pool yoga/fitness at the infinity pool. This was good and the lady running these sessions was very enthusiastic, though there was nothing else after this. I would expect this to be a problem for those with children. The evening entertainment was, overall, average - including a Rock band (who were very good), a singer duo (who attended on two separate occasions during our stay), a DJ and belly dancing group. We don't know if there was any separate entertainment for the children. In our experience staying at other 5 star hotels, the entertainment was lacking. 11. Most of the staff were very attentive and helpful. However others were less so. As we were staying half board, some of the staff were seemingly keen to receive cash in receipt of unlimited drinks and continually pushed us for drinks. This made us feel uncomfortable. 12. As for drinks, if you are half board please be aware that the hotel is expensive. The cocktails are cEUR12 and a pint of beer cEUR7. We found that a bus ride into Kos Old Town (EUR2 at the bus stop next to the flags at the front of the hotel) was much more cost effective as the drinks prices at most of the bars in the Old Town were cheaper. The same applies for food - much better quality for a fraction of the cost. All drinks at the pool are served in either white plastic cups (infinity pool) or paper cups (main bar, for the quiet pool) and these drinks are very expensive for what you actually receive. 13. There was a general untidiness across the hotel around the pool areas on an evening. This was particularly the case on the night we attended the al la carte at the Asian restaurant with the beds in the children's pool area being left in a state. It is not a massive issue but just not something you would expect at a 5 star hotel as usually there are staff to tidy up on an evening. 14. Various items were broken or in disrepair across the hotel. For example, the hand rail at the steps connecting the quiet pool to the main bar was loose, various broken tiles, a broken bin at the quiet pool. Again, nothing major but just not something you would typically see at a 5 star hotel. 15. Wi-Fi was inconsistent during our stay. Out of 7 days, there were 3 days which we did not get any signal in our room. 16. The cleanliness across the resort is generally good. Our room in particular was generally kept clean and tidy but we were provided dirty white towels on one occasion. 17. The hotel is one of the furthest hotels away from the Airport. Our transfer was 1hr 30 minutes, which is not bad, but there are hotels a lot closer if that is important to you. We found that the hotel is quite high up in the mountains and this meant it was very windy most days. If we were to return to Kos, we would aim to stay at a hotel closer to Old Town as the change in weather between the two is quite staggering. Overall, we were not overly impressed by the hotel and certainly do not agree with it's 5 star rating. It is a poor 4 star at best. We do feel we overpaid for our stay. We have stayed at various 5 star hotels in Greece and outside of Greece and whilst this hotel is not "bad", it is certainly not worthy of a 5 star rating. There is no wow factor at all and there did seem to be an overarching feeling that management/the owner were cost cutting across the board. We are a little puzzled by the numerous 5 star ratings on this site and wonder if they are genuine or not... If we had booked this knowing it was a 3 or 4 star hotel (and the cost was proportionate of such rating) then I believe our review would be different.

A wonderful experience all together. The food was delightful, focused on taste and detail. The pools and the hygiene of the restaurants were top notch leaving no room for bad afterthoughts about the place. The staff was always ready to serve our every need with courtesy and a smile on their faces. Would recommend it to anyone who wants to have a heartwarming experience and a place to create unforgettable memories!

The view is amazing from the pool and the evening entertainment was good. The food was lacking a bit, the meat and fish were always dry and the staff weren’t the friendliest. We got to the hotel late at night due to flight delays and were given two sandwiches and a box of apples for our dinner. Not ideal for two hungry travellers who have paid for a good meal and not something either of us wanted to eat. As well as this there wasn’t a lot to do without getting taxis/buses out of the hotel and to other parts of the island.

I returned a week ago from a SECOND stay at the beautiful Michelangelo Resort & Spa and once again, it did not disappoint! After a FAB family holiday here three years ago I decided to come back, this time with my partner and we had another great stay. HOTEL: The hotel grounds are absolutely stunning, the views really do have that WOW factor and honestly…it never gets old. The hotel mentions having a full refurb, and aside from the rooms, most things seemed pretty similar to how I remembered. That said, nothing looked tired or dated, everything was still in great condition and very well maintained. ROOMS: The rooms have definitely been refreshed since our last visit, and the upgrade is noticeable. We stayed in room 1702 which was just above the pool and WOW! The rooms are much more modern and, on the whole, very clean. There are even Rituals products in the bathrooms now! FOOD & DRINK: Breakfast seemed to have slightly less variety than I remembered from my last visit, but there was still plenty to choose from. Dinner and tea had a decent selection too, particularly with meat and fish. A highlight for us was the Soya restaurant (included once per stay), it was honestly even better than I remembered! ALL spirits and soft drinks are branded too which is a bonus. ENTERTAINMENT: This stood out to me this time which was surprising, as last time this was a little dated! There was a much more modern and lively vibe in the evenings with DJs, saxophonist as well as singers and dancers. THINGS TO DO: Kos Town is well worth a visit, with loads to see and do. It’s easy to get there either by bus (€2 per person, one way) or taxi (€17 each way). If you're heading that way, I recommend Mylos Beach Bar. SPECIAL SHOUTOUT: I have to give a shoutout to Ahmed, who used to work around the pool during our previous stay. Back then, he was always so helpful, attentive and went above and beyond to provide five star service. I only saw him briefly on our last day this time around, as he now works in reception as a groom, but he still remembered me! Ahmed is genuinely a credit to the hotel and is just an example of what’s great about the service here. I’ll always recommend Michelangelo Resort & Spa to anyone visiting Kos. I’ve always been apprehensive about visiting the same hotel twice, however I wasn’t disappointed and Michelangelo has definitely become one of my favourite places to visit!

"Got food poisoning from the buffet"

4.0

The hotel itself, the rooms, and the pool are beautiful. However, this hotel is definitely not 5 star. When unpacking, I noticed how much dust was on the floor of the room and in the wardrobe, I then found a large pile of hair in the shower. My boyfriend rang reception and told them about this, they told us someone would come by to clean in the morning. As it was late, and the bedsheets were clean, we decided to leave it and sleep there. The cleaners came but did not clean much. We found a dirty sock under the couch the following day. The food here was absolutely awful. On the fourth day of our trip I got terrible food poisoning. It was definitely from the hotel buffet as we did not eat anywhere else.
