The Grand, York

Got a very good deal to stay here for 2 nights. It was fantastic! Wonderful hotel, staff lovely, breakfast was excellent. Location is perfect for exploring all that York has to offer. Would return again hopefully.

Have visited on a number of occasions and have found the hotel to be of the highest standard. All the staff are courteous at all times the rooms are of a high standard, both the Afternoon Tea and the Sunday Lunch are excellent.If possible visit the Legacy for a high quality Taster Menu experience.

Visited in June 26, just a couple of days away for a break. Location is a five minute stroll from the station and well located for the major tourist sites in a York. Arrived early but the reception staff were amazing and helpful. We had already arranged an afternoon tea so went to the room to freshen up first. Room exceptionally clean and good quality toiletries on offer. Strolled down for afternoon tea which, for me, was comparable to others I’ve had in London. Breakfast the following day was exceptional. So many times you have a breakfast buffet and the food is barely warm. Here the food was piping hot. Ordered the Smoked Haddock Shakshuka which was delightful. In the evening we dined at Legacy (I will review that separately), but it was excellent. I forgot to mention that the bed was firm and exceptionally comfortable. The only other thing was the staff. All of the staff, including the ones who don’t usually deal with customers face to face, have a smile on their faces. They seem to genuinely want the guest to enjoy themselves. They succeeded. We will return!

From checking in through to leaving all of the staff were very friendly. We stay on a regular basis and they always remember our names.

I feel like we get a little over sold to (upgrades) when checking in, previously there were offers free if available.

The standard of room 326 falls short of what one would expect from a hotel in this category: worn furniture, cracked bathroom tiles, a chipped bathtub, and damaged carpet. The gap between the room door and the hallway lets in both noise and a constant draft. The promise of an ‘unforgettable moment’ was not fulfilled. On the day of our arrival, higher‑category ‘Grand Heritage Suites’ were still available, yet we were not upgraded despite what had been stated in the offer. On a positive note, Emma from the breakfast service demonstrated remarkable professionalism. Aside from that, the stay will be quickly forgotten.
