"A reasonable hotel in a very pretty village. Good restaurants locally."

6.0

Breakfast was at the nearby Crown hotel (because the Saracen’s kitchen was out of order, they gave us vouchers for breakfast at the Crown) and it was disappointing for a four star hotel. I was glad that I hadn’t booked to stay there. The room at the Saracen’s Head was comfortable enough, the beds were comfortable, the room was warm and the facilities were all there. The landlord and landlady were helpful and friendly.

The cleanliness left something to be desired. The shower tray was grubby and the tile grouting could do with a deep clean. The courtyard, just outside our room, was quite noisy when the pub was open in the evening, but as we were going out it didn’t bother us.

"Filthy. Wouldn’t stay again."

Great location. The pub itself was nice although most cask beers unavailable.

Utterly filthy bathroom. Bed too small and feet over wooden end board. Radiator/ heater made loud noises when on and had to be turned off so from cold. Large gap under door so strong breeze into room on windy night.

"If we had read the reviews on Trip Advisor we would not have booked."

4.0

Location was the only good thing about it, as we were visiting my aunt for her 90th birthday nearby.

We booked this hotel as Booking.com advertised a car park, as the street parking in Amersham is difficult. We arrived to find that the car park had been sold to developers some 5 or 6 months previously so we had to find parking on the surrounding streets, which was very inconvenient. Breakfast was held at the Crown Inn, some 10 minutes walk away, with a very limited menu for guests from the Saracens Head, compared with that available for their own guests. We were not given a reason why this was so. The room was very tired and not particularly clean. The bathroom needed refitting, the shower sliding door was broken, although the shower itself was good and the water hot. Although our experience was not as bad as some of those on Trip Adviser we would definitely not return. When we were ready to check out we could not find any staff to leave our key with and the bar was locked up, so we left it in the room. We were lucky not to be in the main building by all accounts!
