The staff were really friendly and would do anything they could to help. Porridge was not on the menu but they cooked it every morning for one of us.

The lights in the room were too dim to read the paper once it was dark.

We have stayed at the George and Abbotsford before, on a number of occasions and they are still one of our favorite places to stay when visiting Melrose and the surrounding borders. Great pub, where the locals are always friendly and a big scottish breakfast in the morning.

Not a lot to not like at the G & A. If you are looking for 5 star, try somewhere else. If you are looking for good quality in a traditional Scottish borders hotel, then this is the one.
