Old Thorns Golf Resort And Spa

Just returned from an overnight stay at Old Thorns taking advantage of one of their spa breaks which was excellent value for money and all of the staff were welcoming and friendly across the hotel and spa. Food and drink was also good although some members of our group did not have their steak cooked to their liking despite requesting it medium / medium well done. Cocktails were lovely. Rooms were spacious and clean but the hallways throughout the hotel need new carpets as they are stained and look old and tired. Despite confirming our treatment choices in advance, receiving email confirmation and a member of our group clearly questioning the therapist that she was going o receive the treatment she had booked, this was not the case and she did not get what she was expecting. It goes without saying that she was disappointed and yet when she spoke to the spa staff afterwards on reception no apology or goodwill gesture was made. More water stations are required throughout too as apart from in the spa, there were none visible. The biggest negative for us though was that the building we were staying in was separate from the main building so we could not walk from our room to the spa area in our dressing gowns and the spa is also separate from the pool, sauna and steam etc and for this reasons we probably would not return, we prefer a venue where all facilities are situated closer to each other and drinks/food etc.can be enjoyed by the pool. On a positive though the relax areas were lovely and on a nicer, dryer day there is outside seating too.

Amenities The hotel offers excellent facilities, including three restaurants and two bars, so there’s plenty of choice for anyone! The pool area was clean and spa area was great. One downside was that the showers in the spa had an issue, where water wasn’t draining away. Similarly, the hot beds in the hotel swimming area didn’t function brilliantly as only one was working well. Food & Drink I really enjoyed the Atrium Cocktail Bar, where the cocktails were both delicious and suitably priced. The food throughout our stay was excellent. We ate at the King’s Restaurant on Sunday for the carvery, which had a great selection. I am gluten-free (non-coeliac) and was pleased that most options were suitable, although dessert choices were limited to a blood orange posset or ice cream/sorbet. At Oties, I was initially disappointed that the gluten-free waffles advertised on the menu were unavailable. However, the staff offered a gluten-free panini instead, going out of their way to help me. Room The room was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. While some areas could benefit from a lick of paint, I understand that renovations are planned soon! The bottled water was a nice touch, although be aware that the tap water runs very hot. Service The service was outstanding. Every member of staff was friendly, welcoming, and happy to help! They went above and beyond to accommodate my gluten-free requirements and were always approachable and chatty.

Great venue if you like golf....as an active wheelchair user, the access to the swimming pool and spa area is not great. Staff were not overly helpful (keys needed to access gym, keys needed to get ramp for step to swimming pool) which couldn't be found. No accessible shower, toilet or changing room in the swimming area!!!! I had to go back to our room, dripping wet from the pool, to get showered.This was a special occasion to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, they knew about my chair, VERY DISAPPOINTED 😞.

Positive Vibes Golf Break 2026. 16 golfers arrived for our 3 day golf break. Having been in 2025, we expected pretty much the same however, this time around a few things seemed better. Check in; very friendly, professional and super easy with great staff. Rooms; again as expected, comfy beds, very roomy bathroom and with clean white fluffy towels. Food; Breakfast, really good, actually better than before. Food was high standard, hot and fresh. Everything you would expect and more to set you up for the day ahead. Dinner, again really good. Steaks all cooked to a high standard, no empty plates at the end of each service. Was that a sign of hungry golfers or, was it a sign that the portions were small. Sadly this was our only gripe (small portions) Spa/Pool; we didn't use this in 2025 but decided to give it a go. What a great time had. Not all of us used it but those that did (some both days) loved it. Friendly staff, ample changing facilities and fluffy white towels provided. A real hit for our tired limbs after a long round of golf Gold course; tough, hilly in places, amazing views, fast greens but with the best half way house on any of our golf breaks. The sausage rolls were well worth the wait from the 1st tee.

Thoroughly enjoyed our golf stay for my Stag Do. Everyone was very accommodating. Great service with the package we purchased and some lovely perks included. Will definitely come back and would highly recommend!

Only downside is the hot beds in the spa still aren't working properly
