Renaissance Sanya Haitang Bay Resort

The staff was very accomodating and provided great service. The pools were really nice and the views of the ocean were beautiful. The lobby was also beautiful. I went to the spa and received an amazing massage. However, the food was too overpriced and not that tasteful. Also, the beach was inaccessible due to algae. The room was also dissappointing. It was dirty. There were ants, a dirty floor, mildew in the bathroom and dirty sheets. Every day I woke up with bites on my arms and legs. Something was biting me in the bed. After requesting another room, the biting stopped. The second room was better cleaned with no ants and cleaner sheets. Overall, the resort is beautiful from the outside but needs an upgrade in the inside. The staff is wonderful and I thank them for all of their help.

This is as bad a resort experience as you can find in Sanya. I made my reservation through a "third party," as is common in China PR, and the hotel was never able to verify my reservation. My "special request," for a crib for my baby, was not honored. (And, I found out later, Marriott refuses to give points for "third party" bookings, even though I feel pretty confidant they still get paid for the booking.) The hotel itself is a profound disappointment. Most of the advertised dining facilities don't exist. The scant western food that is available is beyond terrible -- truly the worst food I've ever eaten at a hotel. (The Chinese restaurant is adequate.) The breakfast buffet is a Dickensian nightmare, swarms of people competing for diminishing amounts of poorly cooked food. The bars keep banker's hours, and the bartenders don't know how to make drinks. Large swaths of the pool area were closed. Swimming is not allowed in the ocean fronting the hotel for reasons the hotel could not confirm. A pen in which animals were kept for children to look at was abusive of the animals, in particular the rabbits, who are going to live short, miserable lives at this Marriott. No information about the hotel's facilities is provided in the rooms. The carpet in our room was filthy, to the point that my wife had to tip the maid to have it cleaned for real. I'd say room service was a day late and a dollar short, but to be fair, room service was right on time. Unfortunately, it was on-time with the wrong order. Every single time.(And note bene: if you order a pot of coffee, you get a literal pot, but filled with only one cup of coffee.) The clientele of the hotel was almost entirely Chinese, which raises a sensitive point. I do not believe a Marriott resort serving mostly Europeans or Americans would be allowed to operate at this dilapidated level of service. I have to think that Marriott is taking advantage of Chinese new to resorts, providing them a substandard, cheaper experience because they think they can get away with it. If it sounds like I'm saying this is a racist operation, that's because I am. I had a talk with the manager at the hotel. He offered to buy me dinner -- at the Chinese restaurant -- and he's a nice guy, but the problems at the hotel are systemic and pervasive, beyond his ability to fix. I'd give this hotel a hard pass. Marriott should be ashamed of themselves.

I booked this hotel because I wanted to be away from all of the bars and crowds that would be in Dadonghai and I’m glad I did. I work a lot and I just needed a peaceful getaway for a few days before heading to the busy part of Sanya. Some of the reviews mentioned that it was more of a family hotel and kids would be everywhere, but there was no problem with noise whatsoever. Got a free upgrade to a studio and it was great. LOCATION: There’s a free shuttle from the hotel to the airport and vice versa. Took about an hour to get there. This is a HUGE resort so there’s not really anything around. You can rent a bike for 38 rmb and ride about 5-10minutes down the road to a few convenience stores and Chinese bbq spots. Be careful eating there if you haven’t lived in China long. A lot of people get sick from the bbq here. I grabbed some snacks and went back to the resort. FACILITIES/ACTIVITIES: Fitness center is great, free weights as well as machines. The beach was AMAZING. Very peaceful and there was never a crowd. Beach beds, chairs, and even a few hammocks under the trees for you to relax. Volleyball nets and soccer goals out if you’re traveling with friends. The hotel is definitely geared towards families with kids but as a solo traveler, it didn’t bother me. Never heard kids running around, even though there were many there during the holiday period. The pools are huge, there’s a nice whirlpool hot tub, an arcade, and also a bowling alley. FOOD/RESTAURANT: Breakfast was ok. Less than what I expected. Omelet station didn’t have cheese and the beverage station didn’t have orange juice. Ate lunch and had a few drinks at the bar by the pool and everything was great. Think a band plays there at night, they had a mic stand set up with a couple of speakers. ROOM: PERFECT. Comfortable bed, HUGE balcony, mini fridge, coffee maker with coffee and tea, separate shower, and a large bathtub(I’m 188cm and it felt great to actually stretch out and relax in a hot bath). I travel with movies on my flash drive. Mine worked perfectly when connected it to the tv in the room. All in all, great hotel if you wanna get away from the party scene and just have a few days to truly relax.

This hotel is a good choice if you are looking for a nice place in a nice beach. This very big resort, with beautiful architecture, has some nice gardens surrounding the many pools. I got a room with a balcony connecting to the pool, which takes out some of your privacy, but it's still a great plus. Rooms are huge, bathroom too, and it's very nice. Only drawback is that the rest of the room could be renewed a bit and more nicely decorated. I went there on December, which is low season, so not all restaurants and bars are open (to go to downtown you need to get a 1h taxi ride), but the plus is that very few people go on this season, even thou temperatures are very pleasant, and prices are lower.

Nice hotel, but the loctio is far requires car

First time in Sanya. The architecture of the hotel is very nice. Superb rooms (very big). The garden and the flowers are beautiful and suberbly taken care of. All is so clean everywhere. In this place you need to take a car if you want to go to the outlet

The hotel is clean and 5-star hotel. It is not near the duty-free shopping mall. Breakfast is awesome and room service is good, too. I will choose this hotel next time.
