Base Airlie Beach Resort - Hostel

Very poor conditions. Did not even have soap

We always stay at The Base, good value for money. We normally hit Airlie Beach to party so we don't want to spend $200 are night on accommodation. Love that you can come and go without being fround on. And love meeting all the friendly backpackers. Good clean basic rooms with cold air. A tick from me. Also walking distance to everything.

Stayed in cabin. Needs maintenance. Water taps do not turn off. Mould in wardrobe.

Wasn't able to check in until 2pm, which was ok but we arrived at 115pm which seemed a bit strict.

Horrible start to our holiday. We booked and paid for a deluxe private room. We got there and had NO power, no soap no utensils NOTHING. We waited over an hour in the cold with our luggage and put up with extremely rude staff. Finally we got moved to another room which was a huge downgrade. We tried to organise a discount or money back and we were just told that couldn't be authorised. Instead we were given a $20 bar Voucher it was 8:45 and the bar closed at 9pm. Totally horrible experience would NEVER stay here again. Waste of time and money.

The receeptionist that checked us in was extremely rude. We then made our way to our room, it was upstairs so we had to carry all our gear up there to then realise it was the wrong room. There was no kitchen and 4 sets of bunk beds. We had booked a delux King room and it was nothing like it was supposed to be. So we put all of our stuff back in the car and went back to reception to get it sorted. Another lady served us as the receptionist that had served us earlier didn't even acknowledge us. She was a bit friendlier and put us the right room. Apparently they had put us in a Nomads room which is on the same property. No clue why they would do that as we booked with XBase for an XBase room. The room second room was alot better but not as nice as we had expected. There was no cutlery or bowls or anything in the room except a couple of mugs. The kitchen tap rumbled so much we thought it would break if we turned it up more than a little. We also didn't have a bath mat and desperately needed one as the water goes all over the floor whenever someone showers. We asked reception for one they again they were quite rude but still managed to get one to us. These things are just little but if the service was a little better and the rooms a little bit more equiped and fixed, it would've made our trip that bit better. Although the location is right on the Main Street, you could get a much nicer place for the same price just a street back which honestly is not much of a walk at all.

We needed a place to stay for one night and this worked out really well, the young man in reception was an absolute delight and bent over backwards to help us, the room itself was outdated but clean and the beds were really comfortable for the money we paid it was really suitable. It was close to everything and only a 15 min walk to Port of Airlie

Hotel was a good location for a lot of eating and drinking places which was good. However rooms weren't great, lighting seemed non existent in room and outside lighting was the same around the driveway and buildings. Also an annoying thing about the room key, they only set it up for one day at a time which was slightly frustrating.

Nothing much to complain about as they upgraded our room from queen ensuite to king ensuite! Location is great as it is on the main street but I do not find it noisy at night..recommended!
