The Abbey Hotel

Wonderful hotel/pub with a fabulous atmosphere. Great landlord and landlady running a very busy ship serving good food and local beers in cask. Perfect place for a single traveller

The hotel is perfectly positioned for the centre of Battle around the Abbey gate. Staff were friendly and efficient; breakfast was excellent - a good choice and well prepared..

Our room #4 was quirky - in the eaves so using the shower ( attached to the bath) was only possible sitting down, and as a man it was not possible to stand up straight to pee. The door into the ensuite bathroom was sawn down to 6ft to fit into the eaves, so a tall man would have to bend every time. The bed was comfortable, but unfortunately noises during the night ( other guests and the pipework roaring loudly after a toilet flush elsewhere) did not make for a good night's sleep. We cannot comment on the situation in any other room.

The man who checked me in and served breakfast was great. Really friendly and helpful. It was a great welcome. The room was fine and the full english breakfast very good.

Nothing terrible. The door to the bathroom in Room 4 is very low. The key to the hotel front door worked from the inside but I couldn't lock the door from the outside.

Noise from the street (not the hotel’s fault), old curtains in the bedroom definitely need replacing (holes that let the light in and not fitting properly on the runners) plus a few maintenance issues (not a proper plug in handbasin - leaking shower, loo flusher not working in bedroom 8 etc).
