Patterdale Hotel

After every day tramping up and down fells in all weathers, we returned to highly efficient, extremely polite, guest-oriented staff, as well as hearty and generous food. Our room was clean and comfortable enough - though not fancy, it served its purpose as a place to sleep. We had a room that looked down Patterdale towards Ullswater - that in itself was an amazing thing to wake up to each day. We had no mobile phone service (no bars for O2 or TalkTalk) - which we thought was totally brilliant. And the hotel's WiFi struggled to do much more than download emails and upload the odd photo to social media (and sometimes not even that) - which we also thought was a very good thing. Our intention was to 'get away from it all', and we did.

Great location (views across to hills and lake), great food (three courses with choice of four or more dishes per course, plus full English Breakfast in the morning), very comfortable stay and wonderful staff - plus walking straight from the door!

Great place for base camp. Well priced. Food options could be more diverse than the set tea menu, otherwise, a great clean place to stay with friendly staff!

Worth the money. Only 100 pounds per night including breakfast and dinner. The reception is helpful and friendly.

We had an excellent stay. The hotel staff were lovely and very attentive. The room was kept clean. The location was excellent for local walks.

This was our first visit to The Patterdale and it won't be the last. Room is cosy and warm, only downsized was the mattress was a little uncomfortable but after a long day of walking it won't take long to nod off. Food, we were half board and thought it was great. Dinner lots of options and breakfast was delicious, great sausages. The real winner here though is the staff, always very attentive and helpful, we never felt forgotten. Also you must have the scones at lunch!

excellent base for exploring this area of the Lakes. Helvellyn can be walked from the hotel. The hotel provides packed lunches for a small charge, which were good value. Rooms were comfortable and clean, evening meals were good quality, staff helpful and cheerful

Returned to the Patterdale after a two year break, still excellent value for money, service great if a little too quick at mealtimes re clearing plates and moving on to next course though if you ask for more time to digest the team are happy to oblige
