pleasant outside appearance. only one gripe, owner could have assisted us to get to the top floor on check in. overnight case and bags, coats etc and a lot of narrow stairs with many double fire doors to handle.

The service was extremely dissapointing. Went for breakfast 5minutes late and were first told that it was ok and we would be served. Then we were told we would not be served breakfast at all. We paid for the breakfast when we booked and to be told we were not allowed one was very rude and cheap. Our so called sea view did not exist, instead blocks of bed and breakfasts and flats.

Myself and the wife visited Whitby as it’s our special place where we had our first date. We stayed at the Riviera on this occasion as the rooms looked nice and with breakfast included in the price it was a no brainer. On arrival we were just before 2 but this was fine and allowed to check in that but earlier. First impressions were good. Room was clean and nicely laid out. We had a Sea view room with 4 poster bed. We headed out for food and drinks and returned to the room in time for jungle to start. The tv was a good size the chairs in the room very comfy. Retiring to the bed and closing our eyes we had a great sleep waking to a brilliant view and nice coffee in the biggest coffee cups too I may add. Shower was good and spacious. Breakfast was very tasty with us both having full English. My poached egg was spot on and choice of cereals excellent. We did not meet Emma and Zed much but both seem nice people. We did meet some of the other staff who were also more than helpful for us and a credit to the hotel. Overall the stay was very nice and we would be more than happy to rebook and stay again. It has an excellent location and with parking being free over the winter months, an added bonus.

While having an excellent location the "Superior" room we stayed in was tired with large cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and hairs from previous visitors all over. It was definitely tired and ran down but not overly dirty. We only found this out around 2am as we were there for work and due to this were unable to let staff know due to the time so decided just to complete our stay without causing a fuss. The staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The breakfast served was very good. To sum up - if the accommodation paid more attention to cleaning and maintenance it would have been a perfect stay.

When we got to the room at the top of the 4th floor there was a very strong smell of paint. This was never addressed by the owners. Apart from that the room was good, nice and clean with a great view of the sea. The breakfast was adequate, it could have had a bit more variety maybe.

It was really nice hotel. Everyone was friendly and helpfull. Its in a well placed location, with around a 5-10 mins walk to either the beach front or down the steps to the town centre, or even to nearby takeaways and cafes. You will become very fit if you stay long enough in Whitby as there are steps everywhere. :)

The armchairs in the bay window looking out to see were a great addition to stay. The hosts are friendly and welcoming and the breakfast selection is great
