Nijojo Taiken Inn

It is pretty and ticks the box if you want to stay somewhere with an authentic Japanese vibe.

It’s not suited for westerner’s height, we hit our heads multiple times. It was cold. The building was creaky and the walls are thin so outside noise really comes inside. It is small and pokey. And you have to walk outside to get from bed to the toilet, and then outside again to get to the shower.

It's a very traditional-looking Japanese inn, which was very cool especially in Kyoto, but the main positive is that the whole place is packed with stuff you need. Slippers, towels, toothbrush, coffee, we even got a big bottle of mineral water. Definitely the best stay in our Japan trip, very recommended.

It's not related to the inn, but as a tip, try to avoid the buses in Kyoto, they are so slow you better off walking. Or try the trains, they are really good.

I really loved our stay here. So cosy and you really got a taste of Japan. Close to restaurants and bars as well! Would really recommend this place!!

The room we stayed in was perfect for us, and really set off a positive mood for the holiday. The accommodation staff were very helpful in making us feel welcome and responding to our requests. We had a very positive experience and would consider staying here again.

The location seemed a little bit 'out of the way' sometimes, but I think it was also helpful as it was located right in the centre of the city so it was helpful to access tourist sites on either side of the city, such as the bamboo forest and the famous temples. So while the location seemed out of the way, it was also quite suitable.

Truly a remarkable place! Very nice architecture and interior design. Super clean with a comfy bed and well equipped with everything you need. For example, we forgot our chargers and there's a well stocked lounge with amenities and such things you might need. There's even a shared kitchen or a limited number of bicycles available good for a quick ride. Service via messaging was prompt and definitely very committed and capable to help in case of questions. For example, we could store our luggage before picking it up later in the day. Everything was up to and exceeding expectations. We'd definitely come again! Note the bed is upstairs, connected via a stairway that is in a public space and the bathroom is also accessed through public space via a 'courtyard' with the pretty little Japanese garden you see in the pictures. There are I believe two other apartments in the inn so it was not a problem for us and we felt very comfortable and cozy during our stay.

Great location near the castle! Spotless and well-equipped, including bikes.

To get to our loft bedroom, we had to use exterior stairs and it as very cold! Also, our shower room was cold!

It’s a traditional Japanese wood house, interior looks pretty and calm. You could borrow bicycle for free, (but the seat wasn’t comfortable so literally “pain in the ass lol 😂) but overall it’s a nice experience to cycling around Kyoto. Around 10mins walk to station.

Shower and toilet is outside the room, so it’s not so convenient. The toilet and shower is next to common space, sometimes people watching you going in and out the toilet is awkward.
