We were looking for a hotel near St. Luke's Eye Care and found The Brownwood, which was next door (you can actually walk to the medical center building, they're so close and actually drive through the parking lot if you want). Always coming from the other direction, we never noticed the hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful. Immediately inside are some very comfortable looking chairs to the left in the lobby, and to the right are two reception desks. Very nice staff, especially describing the hotel and your room. The room was immaculate, spacious, and nicely laid out. Everything worked perfectly, and a small device like an iPad Mini is in a dock on the desk; it contains all the hotel information as well as hotel restaurants with their menus and info on surrounding area. Very nice! One thing we've never seen before was the additional key card for electricity, reportedly "European". You insert the card in the small wall device by the door and it allows you to turn on any electrical items and use any plugs or outlets. More on this later. The bed is slightly softer than we're used to, but it's impossible for any hotel to please everybody. Two pillows each was a welcome change, some hotels seem to stack 5 or 6 assorted size pillows for each and it gets a bit tedious figuring out what to do with them. These were normal size and comfortable, and the bedding was very nice. minus the usual 10 pound comforter on top that usually gets tossed. TV included basic channels and some cable ones, good size with usual remote, everything worked fine. Plenty of space to hang and store clothes in a large wall unit between the bedroom and bathroom, including a room safe. The accessible bathroom was large, also immaculate, with plenty of hand rails in the tub/shower. Note: if you need a walk-in shower, be sure to specify, otherwise you might get a traditional tub/shower but with extra hand rails. We first had some drinks in the very nice Lobby Bar. A little loud at Happy Hour, but excellent drinks by a very nice young lady bartender. If you prefer it a little quieter, the restaurant also has a very nice large bar and you can also sit outside. Wolfgang Puck's Restaurant was well lit, open, with slightly larger tables than usual which was a welcome change. My wife really enjoyed her burger, and I went with the 6 oz. Filet Mignon with Brandy Peppercorn Sauce; it was served with a halved and grilled shallot and half a head of roasted garlic. Everything was absolutely delicious and top notch, I can't think of one thing I would change. Our server, Oscar, was excellent and a credit to the establishment. Watching the other staff, dining and kitchen, was like watching a show on how a good restaurant depends on great staff. When the Manager stopped by we made sure to tell him how much we enjoyed everything. The key card for the room electricity! Before we left, my wife wondered if everything turned off when removed. She did, I told her the lights were still on. She then went into the bathroom where the lights went off about 2 minutes later. I thought it was pretty funny; she, not so much. Our only complaint would be breakfast in the hotel's "Chef's Studio". When you sit down you are given a small sheet of paper where you select either one of a few ommelet choices or 2 eggs prepared one of a few ways, with either bacon or sausage. You then get up and choose from bread, small bagel, croissant, etc. (make your own toast) and the usual fruits. Coffee is decent, and there are several teas available. The breakfast potatoes (small quartered ones), in a large chafing dish, were almost inedible; a strange grayish color, undercooked (like al dente), with some very thin strips of pepper and maybe onion with oil on the bottom of the pan. At $22 per person, definitely overpriced and a great reason to go somewhere else. Before we left we made another reservation due to another appointment at St. Luke's. Kristen at the front desk did an excellent job in assisting us and such a friendly and helpful young lady, a real asset. We look forward to our next visit and highly recommend both the Brownwood Hotel and Wolfgang Puck's Restaurant.

This hotel is exceptional in every way. It is clean, comfortable, and quiet. The rooms, surroundings, and pool area are beautifully designed with lots of character. The restaurant has an interesting menu and excellent service. Walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and the Villages nightly entertainment. Convenient shuttle to the Orlando airport. Perfect!
