Terrasse Hotel Playa del Carmen

Shout out to the morning staffer - she was the best thing about staying at this hotel, hands-down. Very helpful, friendly, informative, and just genuinely sweet soul. The noise around the property was tough. Dogs barking all day & night. The pictures must have been taken years ago. The room was run down, water leaking from faucet, visible mold in the bathroom and on the ceiling. Ants were all over the bathroom and other dead bugs. The safe beeped on-stop and although this was reported no remedy was provided - I had to stuff wet towels on it to drown out the noise. The patio furniture was not cleaned the entire stay. The pool had dead flies, bees, and other insects floating in it daily, never skimmed. The location was close to several restaurants within walking distance. The beach was a 30-minute walk or 10-minute cab ride. The elevator was slow and sketch. The website showed an on-site restaurant but apparently it had been closed for months. The room smelled of mildew.

This hotel is a complete scam—misleading advertising, filthy conditions, and a sense of neglect that made it impossible to stay. If you’re considering this hotel, don’t. First Room: Absolutely Unacceptable The moment I stepped into my room, I knew I had made a mistake. The air smelled damp and musty, and it was clear that basic cleaning was not a priority here. Then I looked closer: • Pubic hair on the bed sheets—clear evidence that the linens had not been changed from the previous guest. • Bodily fluids smeared on the sink—absolutely disgusting and completely unacceptable. • A damp, moldy smell coming from the bathroom—it was clear this place hadn’t been deep-cleaned in a long time. • Dust and grime everywhere—on the floors, furniture, and walls. I immediately went to the front desk and requested another room, hoping that maybe this was just an unfortunate mistake. Second Room: Just as Bad Unfortunately, the second room was just as filthy. The bed had the same issue—stained, unclean sheets with stray hairs. It was obvious that this wasn’t a one-time mistake—this is just how this hotel operates. Rooftop Pool: A Dirty, Slimy Disaster Since the hotel heavily advertises its rooftop pool, I decided to check it out. Maybe, just maybe, it would be a redeeming factor. It wasn’t. • The walls, which were supposed to be white, were stained brown with dirt and grime. It looked like no one had cleaned them in over a year. • The pool water looked slimy and unmaintained. It was cloudy and murky, with an almost oily film on the surface. • The entire area felt abandoned, neglected, and dirty. It was nothing like the beautiful, well-maintained space shown in the hotel’s promotional photos. Polite But Powerless Staff To be fair, the staff were polite, and it was clear that they were just doing their jobs. But it was also obvious that they had no power to fix anything. When I complained, they didn’t argue, they didn’t get defensive, and they didn’t act surprised. Instead, they just gave me a helpless look—as if they knew exactly how bad things were but had no ability to change them. There was no offer to compensate, no refund, no solution—just an empty apology. False Advertising & a Complete Rip-Off Everything about this hotel is a lie. The photos online make it look modern, clean, and stylish, but in reality, it’s a run-down, unclean mess. This is not a 4-star hotel. In reality, it’s maybe 1.5 stars at best. The way it is marketed is completely dishonest, and they are clearly just taking people’s money with no intention of delivering a quality experience. Final Verdict: DO NOT STAY HERE. La Terrasse Hotel is one of the worst hotels I have ever encountered. The rooms are disgusting, the rooftop pool is a filthy joke, and the entire experience is a bait-and-switch scam. I refused to stay and had to find another hotel last minute, wasting both time and money. Save yourself the trouble and book somewhere else—this place is a disaster.

Quite okay location, close enough to 5th avenue but still away from the hassle, clean and quite fine. Biciplaya citybike station just next to the hotel for easy bike pick up and drop off. Walking distance to Playa 72 Pool at the rooftop was fine, quite small but works for cooling.

Wifi on the rooftop never worked. Told the staff about it but after a week it was still not working. Room with balcony was not what I was expecting, only a french balcony and not big enough to fit in there to spend any time.

This was place was great, not far from 5th Avenue. Staff were super nice and attentive/helpful. Location was great and felt safe. In front of a Sunday market so it was wholesome to see them prep their stands. Nice spot for our tour guides to find and pick us up. Overall, the stay was excellent! Will visit again soon!
