Heart of the City - FREE PARKING

The location of the property was good, about a 5 minute walk to York city centre!

The building itself is shabby and run down and had an awful smell about it - which we thought was bad until we got into the apartment itself. The whole apartment smelled of strong damp and being in the apartment too long actually made us feel nauseas. The owners clearly knew about this and tried to cover it up with as many reed diffusers as they could find! When we got home all of our clothes, toiletry bags and jackets smell horrible and took a few washes to get rid of the smell! The window in the bedroom was hard to open, which made the smell even worse. So much was broken and run down that it was a hazard. The radiator was hanging off the wall in the living room when we arrived, but then it fell off altogether during the night last night. The staircase is so dangerous in any event, but some of the black poles in the stairs themselves were broken and this caused me to slip. This must not have been the first time because there was a spill all down the wall in the same place. The bannister at the top of the stairs is also wobbly. The bed was sadly the most uncomfortable bed we have stayed in, meaning a very poor nights sleep. I actually had some physical bruises due to the springs in the mattress! There was also a notice that the shower in terms of hot water, would only last a limited time. This wasn’t ideal, however it was made worse by the fact that the hot tap leaks in the downstairs bathroom. We tried to move the tap so that it didn’t leak but then in a matter of minutes it was leaking again. This lead to a lukewarm shower with terrible water pressure that meant we could not wash our hair or clean properly. I then went to use a spoon in the kitchen, and the drawer just flew out into my hand. The parking was also a real pain. The instructions of the permit were helpful to a point, however the person before had not removed their car and the vehicle limit of 100 on the permit had been reached.

Location (and this is the only good thing to the property)

The property was dirty, the chairs had lots of sains on them, the bed is absolutely disgusting the mattress is awful springs digging into your back and what looks like urine stains all over the mattress, very small spiral staircas that is dangerous to walk up and down, the door into the living room has handles missing and could easily close behind you and lock you in with on way of opening the door, the oven had one very dirty grill tray, the shower is useless it barely gets warm, no information on how to operate the oven or anything else in the accommodation except the WiFi password and that is it, no information on where to leave rubbish bags, very dark rooms no natural light coming in, the location of the property is in a very dirty alleyway and you really don't feel safe when leaving or returning to the accommodation,.the car parking space is quite a distance away and very awkward to book your vehicle in the system, we have stayed in many properties booked through booking.com before and I can truly say this is the worst we have ever stayed in considering the cost for 4 nights. 3 star accommodation: This is not. I wouldn't give it 1 star, let alone 3 stars, we would never return to this property, and if you want my advice book somewhere else if you wish to stay in York we wish we did.

Great location

Worst bed I've ever paid to sleep in...

This is a great find in an excellent location right in the city centre. I asked for additional bedding as I was here with my son and he had the sofa - this was all waiting for us. The apartment is over 2 floors which was fine for us - we liked the spiral staircase and was really spacious. Having 2 toilets was a plus. Having free parking was great too and although the space we should have had was taken, the owner responded immediately to my text and we sorted an alternative space with no problem. It’s only a few mins walk from the apartment. The only downside was that the bed does needs a new mattress - I could feel the springs. We would definitely recommend this apartment and want to come back ourselves!

Spiral staircase could be an issue for anyone with mobility problems but fine for us

Left after first night due to strong mold odor throughout the apartment.Odor was making me nauseated.

Horrible strong mold odor. Lots of black mold seen in the downstairs bathroom but the whole apartment reeks like there is a water leak somewhere.

The apartment is perfect for exploring York. Right in the centre of the city, within a short walk of most of York attractions.    Remove “Luxury” from the title. It isn’t.  The apartment is very tired, in need of a very good clean and refurbishment.   More importantly; it’s not clear from the description that the property is on two floors. The main bedroom is downstairs via a tight spiral staircase. Not only is it steep but the treads are not anti slip. It is not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties. Of greater concern though was, how to escape from the downstairs bedroom in the event of an emergency. The windows are locked, and even if opened, it was a drop from the first floor to escape. The owners must provide an instruction booklet.   Overall, very disappointing. There’s no point trying to contact the owners, they do not reply, even to booking.com.

The apartment is in an excellent location, the free parking is an added bonus & the short walk from the car park to the apartment isn't really a problem

As others have stated previously in their reviews the mattress is uncomfortable & the spiral staircase is quite daunting however one of the main reasons for booking this particular apartment was because it had a bath as well as a shower which you don't often find in apartments/hotels. I was extremely disappointed on arrival to find a sign (picture attached) stuck to one of the doors in the apartment stating there was limited hot water & how much hot water was dependent on how much was used by the previous guests. This actually meant that on all 3 nights of our stay both myself & my partner could only have a tepid (at best) shower, for 2 minutes maximum. Had I known about this beforehand I definitely wouldn't have booked this apartment & therefore won't be re-booking or recommending to friends & family.
