Casa di Portou No3

This is a great place to stay right in the centre of old Chania. It's easy to get to by bus from the airport, as the bus station is only 8 - 10 minutes walk away. We stayed in the top floor room, which is slightly larger than the one below. There was plenty of space. The family has restored the building with lots of imagination and attention to detail. There are some great quirks too, such as the front of an old chest of draws forming part of the wall. I doubt there is anywhere else similar in Chania. The shower on the top floor room is behind the chimney stack - great shower too, if a little slow to drain. We met Penelope and Dimitrios, who were very welcoming and gave us initial suggestions for breakfast, etc. The bed was very comfortable (firm, if that is how you like it). Air conditioning was effective and the quietest I've come across. There can be some noise from people using the path outside, but it is what you would expect from a property in an old part of town - it had little impact on our sleep and we both slept very well while staying here. The first taverna past No. 3 is a good spot for breakfast. Beyond that is a restaurant that doesn't promote its name with tables going up the lane - it's a tourist factory with bad food and to be avoided at all costs. Further along Portou and round the corner are a number of restaurants that are much better - we particularly liked Moutoupaki in the corner. There is also a friendly supermarket very close by. The only limitations with this property is the stairs, which are probably too much for anyone with reduced mobility. For those that are able- bodied, it is part of the charm. Ww would very happily stay here again.

Great host and location! In the heart of the old town Chania, and walking distance from all the sights. The host is very helpful and friendly. The apartment was very spacious and comfortable, in a authentic house with beautiful furniture and lovely balcony.

We stayed at Casa Portou for 11 nights in June. The accommodation was excellent. If you enjoy being in the heart of the old town. This is the place for you. Communication was excellent with the owners who kindly let us stay a little while after checkout. The room was very spacious and retained all the charm of the historical building, having been renovated by the family that own it. There is a kitchen area with coffee machine, kettle, microwave and fridge. This area also has a table and chairs. The bed was very comfortable and the sleeping area had 2 comfortable chairs for relaxing. The shower was always hot and the owners had provided a hairdryer body wash and shampoo. When we arrived there was cold water in the fridge and some biscuits. This is a lovely touch after a long journey. Located in a fantastic spot within 3 minutes walk to the old harbour surrounded by a real mixture of eating places and situated in the old streets of Chania. You can hear people enjoying life but there is no disturbance to speak of at night. We love to stay in traditional Greek accommodation and to date this has been the best. The family that own and run this accommodation were just lovely and would help with anything you need. They run the business below the accommodation so are around for most of the day. Great location, lovely shower and beautiful room. The hospitality from the hosts was second to none and we loved our stay - we definitely will be returning!
