Valtur Cervinia Cristallo Ski Resort

The hotel is at the top of Cervinia village and its a vertical descent 8 min walk along the main road to the town centre. Up to 7pm there is a courtesy shuttle bus that will drop you to the town centre. Unfortunately, after 7pm they charge an extortionate €10 per person to bring you back to the hotel. The hotel is 5 star and everyone is very professional. However, this is where the problem lies. There is little warmth. We felt as we were yet another guest. Not special. I was with six other women and it was an odd feeling to see people smiling at you without being genuine. Rooms were comfortable but the room was too hot, shower heat taps were interesting, one minute scolding the next cold. There were slats missing from my side of the bed and lifting up the mattress they were on the floor. It was a clean hotel, lots of workers keeping it this way. There is no where to work where there isn't piping hotel music being pumped through the speakers. There is no outside area that we could find to enjoy the sun, unless we wanted to sit next to the Range Rover promo area. I booked a massage. My male masseur was excellent for €170 for 50 minutes. Probably the best I've ever experienced. The spa pool was small - it's a pity there isn't a inside and outside pool to use during the ski season. The ski room was good and there was a ski shop on site. My biggest grumble one Rose available on the menu only for €70. However, we did appreciate the 'canapes and sandwiches' every day at 4pm.

The hotel room was clean and cozy. The view from the room was perfect- Matterhorn peak. The facilities of the hotel are great - there was a gaming room, big restaurant with good food, good SPA and cozy and warm fireplace. All of the evenings we were enjoying live shows on the fireplace and this was really fun and nice.

The hotel buildings are far from the main restaurants and the SPA centre. The halls to the rooms are a little bit cold and it’s not comfortable for walking. Also, at the SPA centre you had limited time for one hour a day and would be good to have more free time. Moreover, all of the time you need to book in advance a place for the restaurant for the next day. The organisation of the restaurant could be improved and more warm and cooked food could be done at the place - not only pasta and omelets for breakfast but also pancakes, for instance.

The food was exquisite. Beautifully prepared and presented. Antonio and team are fabulous chefs. Service is outstanding. Strongly recommend - we are coming back on Thursday!

Positives: clean, comfortable, nice facilities, good ski rental and boot room facilities, the shuttle drivers are absolute gentlemen. Breakfast is decent. Negatives: Be careful what you touch, breath on, or stare at too hard as they will charge you for it and it will be at a ridiculous price. Important to check your bills thoroughly, we had 2 or 3 errors with additions we did not have. Honestly, If you were to die in this hotel I’m sure they’d charge you for it. 15% of the staff are super friendly and helpful. The other 85% (mostly in the dining area and spa) seem disinterested and annoyed by our presence (despite the mandatory tip on every bill). My biggest issue with the hotel is that there are a lot of unclear processes and rules with no flexibility that create so much unnecessary drama. For example, the bar wouldn’t fill my water bottle with tap water, I was told no, this was not policy - I must buy or try the gym. Went down to gym, despite having been in the gym an hour before I was told the water in the gym is reserved exclusively for gym goers and despite the gym being COMPLETELY EMPTY I was not permitted to walk through the door to refill my water bottle (I’m 19 weeks pregnant btw). Is it 5 star service to refuse a guest access to a water cooler ? Same carry on with towels post gym for a shower - only the lifeguard in the pool can give you a towel, even if you’re not going to the pool no one is willing to just hand you a towel to shower you have to remove your shoes and enter the pool (oh and you need sandals for that, another €5). Same with booking dinners, touching the ready and displayed apres food at 4:25 instead of 4:30, trying to watch the 6 nations at 3pm in the “theatre” (with over 30 Irish guests staying) etc. This hotel would rather die on their own hill than make a simple allowance for a guest. Outside of breakfast the food is really average. Found mold in the onions, reheated breakfast at dinner and reheated dinner at breakfast. No tap water available at dinner. Finally, our room was directly above the dining area which meant we could hear the music from 7am when it opened, until 12am. It’s also hot in the room so we wanted to leave the window and curtains open for airflow but theres actually an external strobe light that shines in your window until 12am. Enjoy!
