The Location and the History

The Place is shabby , run down and disorganised The staff are rude , unhelpful and seem completely unaware of the word hospitality … and indeed the meaning of the word. As a guest they take every opportunity to lecture you.

Very friendly, hard working and well meaning staff who were very kind to our dog. A la carte evening mean was fabulous (see "What you didn't like?" about breakfast; very different.) One evening a musical trio played in the dining room albeit they we don't think they were paid by the hotel (tips only.) Please see "What didn't you like?" for our much larger dissatisfaction with this property.

The hotel is v.tired and the general state of cleanliness, comfort, and facilities was low; photos attached. ROOM: We booked a "sea view" room for 4 nights at a premium rate. Put on top/3rd floor (no lift!), where the only windows with "sea view" were high and immediately beneath a sloping roof line, required leaning over ledge to see anything except sky. Tired sofa near the windows from where you could only see the sky as the windows are velux built into the sloping roof. The tea/coffee making facilities were very basic (e.g. instant coffee) and our used mugs, glasses, spoons were not changed throughout our 4 night stay. 2 hanging mirrors in main bedroom, both too far from any sockets to be useful for hair drying, requiring us to move a mirror atop a bookcase near a socket, orientated landscape and buttressed with books. The mattress on the double bed was so soft (ostensibly old/tired) we were in considerable pain after the 2nd night and moved to the not much firmer mattresses of custom built bunk beds (with painful/dangerously thin ladder rungs) in an adjacent room. The wardrobes were very tired, and closing one door caused the others to fly open :D No hand soap was provided until we asked. There was obvious mould on the shower head. The bed linen was changed on the day, before our departure; weird! The front room door was hard to open and flew shut with force that could have awoken neighbors if not super careful. The radiators in the hall and main bedroom were rusty and dirty. One of the bedside tables rocked, making it unsuitable to place drinks. COMMON AREAS: Restaurant has a lovely glass roof, affording a spectacular view of the harbor. However, in hot/sunny weather it is a sauna, even with doors/windows open. Cheap breakfast provision:sliced packet bread; canned fruit recycled daily; hard sausages. Dirty terrace furniture next to always open laundry door. Pool table cue tips missing/flat

Staff absolutely wonderful, helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Welcomed our dog, and gave us a breakfast bag on leaving as too early ferry for brekkie. Above and beyond. Dinner was fabulous and great for myself as a coeliac.

Room was clean

Room had no towels or hand soap! Could not find a staff member to resolve this! Breakfast was stone cold! Tables not cleared from whoever was there before us! When I asked a member of staff upon arriving for breakfast, where do we sit? The reponse was i don't know? Certainly not the service you expect with the prices charged here!
