La Catrina de Alcala

Beautiful property. Nice room, and located upstairs in the back, so it was very quiet. Breakfast in the morning was good and excellent service.

Pedestrian walk out front of the hotel was jammed with vendors due striking teachers occupying the nearby plaza with hundreds of tents... of course, out of control of the property, but made coming and going more of a hassle and chaotic. But when I checked out, all returned to normal with the striking teachers left the night before...

The location of La Catrina de Alcala is perfect as you walk out of the hotel straight onto a lively pedestrianised street in the heart of Oaxaca. The central square and cathedral are 2 minutes walk away. Yet the elegant interior is quiet but full of light with quirky historical touches. Our room was comfortable and a reasonable size. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Continental breakfast was a little limited. The fruit and fresh orange were good but the only bread options were unpleasantly sweet. The aircon in our room was effective but a bit harsh.

Location is excellent , it is in old town but yet the room given to us is quiet away from street noise

La Catrina de Alcalá is a small, 13-room hotel located smack in the center of the action, located right on the Andador Turístico - Oaxaca's main and beloved pedestrian street. It features a dining area in a plant-filled interior courtyard and has character to spare. In spite of its location in the heart of the tourist area, the rooms are very quiet and sleep is peaceful. The rooms and bathrooms are huge, well-appointed, and nicely decorated, with lots of storage and all other appointments, including A/C. The staff is excellent, from Rocio at the front desk to Oscar, who does it all, and including all the dining staff, the darling lady making tortillas as you watch and the lovely evening greeter. Prices include continental breakfast with fresh juice, fresh fruit and local (sweet) bread rolls.

A continental breakfast was included in the room rate. We had a choice of several Mexican breads in addition to receiving a plate of fresh fruit and fresh squeezed juice. Really enjoyed the unique style of the hotel. The rooms access an interior area that is well lit from skylights above. It is wonderfully quiet for sleeping since there is no street noise. The location was exceptional.

The only thing I didn't like was the very firm bed and pillows.
