OHEI

OHEI is a lovely hotel situated in the midst of the mangrove trees at the Rekawa Lagoon. The bed is good, pool is beautiful and the staff is friendly and accomodating. It's also very much worth it to rent a kayak to explore the lagoon and all the wonderful birds frequenting it.

It was very sad to see the hotel is currently cutting down many of the mangrove trees on the property (which we believe are protected nationally?) to make room for more accomodations, thus destroying the very ecosystem we came to see and which makes this part of Sri Lanka special.

Stylish and luxurious garden space with relaxing pool and open plan kitchen. Lots of space within the deluxe bedroom with a garden view, beautifully decorated.

We were disappointed with the overall customer service. The staff were disorganised and lacked communication with us and each other; they didnt show us around the hotel, we weren't aware of the facilities available to us e.g. spa and kayak hiring, they didn't know how many nights we were staying and we had to remind them twice, they said the room was ready to check in but upon arrival there was someone in the room still cleaning it - this lead to them rushing and leaving the room dirty (dirty glasses which smelled of beer, dirty bathroom sink and toilet), they didnt attend to our comments that the blind was broken (good job we took eye masks) and that the shower was cold. Saying this the staff were very polite and wanted to help but they just didn't do anything. We wanted to treat ourselves towards the end of our holiday and paid more money for this accommodation, but overall the hotel did not deliver on its 4 star claim.

The property was amazing, the pool area, the restaurant and the bedroom (with stunning bathroom). Also the staff were super friendly and cooked us some nice meals. Would definitely come again!

We had a wonderful stay at Ohei Tanglale! The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The hotel also has a nice pool and a great restaurant. We enjoyed both lunch and dinner, and the food was absolutely delicious! The staff was amazing - friendly, attentive! We highly recommend staying at Ohei Tanglale!

Fantastic location and really lovely swimming pool.

Breakfast was slightly hard work. Took ages to get any drink / food. That said, food was excellent. Other downer was being charged for a second cup of coffee at breakfast.

Remote and calm location, very spacious and clean rooms. Loved the big pool!

We didn’t have warm water and asked the staff about it, they said it was fixed but that wasn’t the case. We als couldn’t adjust the fan of our AC which was very loud. We addressed this and it couldn’t be fixed. Staff had limited understanding of English.

Location was a bit interior

The whole place is picturesque, the pool is fantastic and it backs onto the river/lagoon. The room was very spacious. We used the kayaks to go for a sunset paddle which was really nice.

The location is really remote in regards to tangalle although easy to access via a tuktuk but not walkable. Our bedding wasn’t clean on arrival, however, the staff quickly changed the bedding for us late in the evening, no question asked. During our 3 night stay, the room wasn’t cleaned once/bedding or towel change which you would expect for a “4 star” hotel. When we arrived, we had laundry to do including our bags. We had found a private laundrettes, Southern Laundry, we were going to use the following morning. The ‘manager’ said he was taking the hotels laundry to the same private laundrette & even showed us a Southern Laundry receipt and insisted that he would take ours as well. We agreed to this based on the fact the Southern Laundry had a machine dryer and therefore our clothes & bags would be machine dried. The following day we were told they could not clean our bags but could the clothes. We said that was fine & we would take the bags ourselves. When the clothes were returned, 2 days later, we paid the money but quickly realised this was 300 lkr/kg more expensive than expected. We were then informed the hotel completed our laundry at the hotel and this was their rate. The ‘manager’ insisted the clothes were machine dried but we were not convinced and asked to see their machine which was just a washer not a dryer. The manager then said he doesn’t know Southern Laundry even though he showed us a receipt previously, admitted he was wrong but said he would not give our money back as its hotel policy. We were never informed our washing was being completed internally and had we of known/not been pressured we would have taken it ourselves as planned. The ‘manager’ was extremely rude, laughed at us, pushed me (gently) and said he is going to the supermarket. Eventually we got our money back after some consistency. Extremely disappointing to what would have been a lovely Christmas break.
