NIKARA Luxury Beach House

We stayed one night at Nikara Beach House so we could do a morning safari in Yala. Nikara is an really impressive, characterful place with lots of interesting features and artworks, a beautiful garden with lots of flowers, birds and squirrels and a spectacular swimming pool and access to a wild but beautiful beach. Our room was a separate and spacious apartment with it's own private plunge pool and sitting area which was a bonus, The food was good and the safari the hotel organised with excellent driver and guide Suranga was a real success for us as we were lucky enough to see a wonderful female leopard up really close for around 10 minutes just relaxing in the sun on a rock! You must get to Yala entrance as early as possible to get the best chance of a leopard spotting, we left our hotel at 4.30am. As well as the leopard we saw lots of elephants, a pair of Jackal, a huge Brown Fish Owl, herds of Spotted Deer, buffalo and many bird species, A truly wonderful place, and experience,

The location was great. The staff were very friendly.

For a Luxury Beach house, and what it cost, some aspects of the maintenance within the property were found to be unsatisfactory. Kettles and bathroom fixtures with lime scale deposits, bedsheets and cushions with stains, issues with toilets and water. Also though the staff were friendly and hard working they were time pressed to provide some basic services like a pot of tea when we work up and was instead only served during breakfast. The food was a bit of a gamble as we found it to be fantastic at times and between unremarkable and disappointing at other times.

Peaceful hotel. Great location next to beautiful beach. Nice restaurant with wonderful cook. Staff is so helpful.
