Greenhead Hostel

It's a basic hostel but adequately comfortable.

The shared bathroom could be better. It wouldn't have worked well if there had been more people staying.

I believe the hostel has changed ownership, it certainly didn’t deserve previous poor ratings. It is an excellent facility

I was moved to the Greenhead Hotel across the street so this review is for the hotel, not the hostel. Clean, comfy, good value meal, handy to the Hadrians Wall Path.

Nella stanza non si poteva aprire la finestra perché la tenda della finestra era rotta e si incastrava nella finestra. Faceva quindi molto caldo

The boot room was hot and useful for drying out clothing and footwear.

3 double rooms were to share a wc and shower but the shower was out of order. There was a note on the fridge that said complementary milk was available but you had to take your own container to the pub across the road in the rain! There could have been milk left in the fridge. The room was tiny. The blind on the velux window wouldn’t open or close and the window in the room wouldn’t open so no ventilation we had to prop the door open so people could see us as they walked along the corridor. The reception staff in the pub were disinterested in issuing the key and didn’t say the shower wasn’t working.

An excellent, affordable stopover for walkers on the Hadrian's Wall track or Pennine Way track.

Coming into summer, the hostel building did get quite warm on the upper floors, however opening the large skylight window helped cool our room overnight. The shower was also lacking a showerhead support, but it was noted that it was being addressed shortly. It was still fully functional as a handheld washer.

Fabulous location, lovely property

Needs some updating. There was a sign in the kitchen saying “complementary milk from the hotel”, but the hotel claimed to not know about this - suggest changing the signs to reflect this (although given the lack of nearby shop, selling milk from the hotel would be a very good alternative)
