Aurora Borealis Observatory

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and view, and the food is good. The location is very remote (you need to prebook transfer) and some rooms have panoramic views. The apartment was spacious.

NOTHING was as advertised. We booked the upgrade to the "luxurious two bedroom apartment" based on its "standout features" fireplace and own private hot tub (Note: the description & pictures at booking.com are misleading and inaccurate). No Fireplace, the apartment seemed built very "cheap". We were told to use the neighbouring jacuzzi about 30-40m away, but it was almost impossible to go there, certainly not at night due to knee deep snow, ice and construction materials. No privacy there either, right in front of windows of other house. That Jacuzzi was disgustingly dirty (see my picture). The fridge ("minibar") is not filled with anything! You will have to bring groceries. They only serve a very basic breakfast and dinner a la carte. The apartment had only one small heater in the bedrooms, respectively, so managing the temperature became challenging. No AC or central heating but large windows. We were feeling cold most of the time. All paths, trails, roads were covered in solid ice layers and were dangerously slippery so even the walk to dinner became a risky adventure every time. No chance to go on winter walks. Luckily we did not break anything. Nothing else to do there during the day. You will have to prebook activities in advance, they do not provide any list of providers or things to borrow (e.g. snowshoes). The "view" is to a road. There is a panoramic view but not from this apartment (as falsely advertised). Looking around we saw broken light, broken windows...just no care on things. Breakfast buffet is too basic for this price segment, and one day the cheese was moldy. Yes, we got to see the Northern Lights but this place was a rip off. Locals do not like them. When we asked management about the false description they said they were happy to cancel our reservation if we wished and it was not their problem that there was a wrong description on booking.com (BUT WE WERE ALREADY THERE!

Beautiful location. We were in an executive suite, which was awesome!!

Finding the room was a bit confusing. The outer door to the executive suites should be labelled. The hot tub was also not quite full enough.

The location was fantastic with amazing views across the snowy landscape. Although we could see distant towns and houses it really felt like we were in the middle of nowhere! The room was very comfortable - great beds and fun hot tub! Restaurant was a beautiful space in the old barn with fantastic views and a small but varied menu.

Removing the hot tub lid was really difficult, especially as the snow from the decking had been piled up next to it so all we could do was lean it against the pile of snow which blocked out any view. There was also no step to get into the hot tub so it made it a bit tricky getting in and out, especially with the ice and snow on the ground.

Service was poor for the price charged. No daily room service Atairs to room with ice, making it dangerous to go up and down w suitcases. Staff didnt offer to bring suitcasea to the room. People were nice but feeling is that thwy lack training/ instructions

The actual room, and the facilities in the room were excellent. The on-site restaurant was very good, with very helpful and pleasant staff. Breakfast was good.

The accessibility to the room was up a steep set of stairs that were covered in ice. Parking was undetermined, lots of no parking signs. Official parking was possibly 400 yards from the property. But this was unclear.

Way overpriced for what’s it’s actually worth. Far from anything so there’s nothing to do unless you have a tour prebooked, the room was dirty, the service was awful because ONE person was the receptionist, driver, bartender, waiter, manager, etc. We felt bad for him but he was extremely rude and not accommodating at all. Very limited options of food, the majority of the menu was sold out each night.. their excuse was we didn’t stay during the days they do their stocking. Most importantly, the whole staff leaves at night so when we had an issue, there was no one to ask for help. Don’t believe everything you see on instagram & i wish I had believed the bad reviews prior to spending ANY money here.
