Sand Dollar House Hiriketiya

We had a very lovely but short stay at Sand Dollar House! The room is located in a small courtyard with many plants and trees, at a few minute's walk from the main beach in Hiriketiya. The courtyard is very peaceful, with nice places to sit down and relax, as well as a small outdoor cooking area. The room itself is very clean and cozy, and has a very nice on-suite bathroom that has recently been renovated. There is everything you need, including a mosquito net and air conditioning. Gayashan was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay :) He was able to book a scooter for us to go explore the beaches and sights around Hiriketiya, and gave lots of tips on the best spots to go and visit. He is a very passionate marine biologist so recommended the best beaches to go to! He also gave us some great tips on where to eat as we were there during the low season so some places were closed. Both ones that we tried were great, with great service and delicious food. He even was able to arrange us a last minute taxi the morning we were leaving as we had a change in our travel plans. We would definitely recommend Sand Dollar House, based on the location, the value for money, the kindness of the hosts and to have a really nice local experience :)

Sand Dollar House was one of the best homestays in my whole month of traveling around Sri Lanka! Gayashan and his family were so welcoming and accommodating. You have the whole space to yourself; room, bathroom, outdoor kitchen, and lounge area complete with a hammock. It is the perfect place to relax and hang out! 10/10 recommend!

I don't know what we can say that hasn't already been said - this place exceeds all expectations. If you're looking for a place to call home during your time in Hiriketiya and this place is appearing available, book NOW. Gayashan and his family take pride in their homestay and are dedicated to making sure you have a pleasant stay. The courtyard/outdoor kitchen area that appears in the photos are private for your use only. There are lights outdoors, and we really enjoyed having a tea outside in the evening with our board games. The air conditioning and hot shower work perfectly. The bed is comfortable. The breakfasts are delicious (even catered to a vegan diet). The beach and delicious local restaurants 5 min walk away. If you want to explore, the hosts will organise a reasonably priced scooter rental. Best part is they have two beautiful well-trained dogs that love to be pat. By far the coziest place we’ve stayed in Sri Lanka. The room room has its own private, outdoor area with a shower (besides the one in the bathroom), a kitchen counter, a fridge and several places to relax and hang out. Plus there are body boards available for free. The family running the place are so sweet and helpful and made us feel at home while valuing our privacy. Stay here!

I wish I could give more than 10 stars! This guesthouse is the most amazing place we have stayed at in our 10 weeks trip throughout Sri Lanka. You will get a complete house with a very modern bathroom, a room, an amazing little outdoor kitchen with a huge fridge, a kettle and even a french press for coffee. There is also a super cozy chill out area in the garden. The breakfast was amazing! On top of that, you are super close to two of the best rice&curry restaurants in Hiri and the beach is also just a short walk. The house is quiet and you are away from the beach parties that happen on weekends. We work online and live nomadically. We would totally stay for a month. The garden is perfect for some work time. Big table with enough space for two laptops. We absolutely loved our stay here and will 100% come back.

It is very well designed and we had our own space and privacy. It was a very unique space and we enjoyed the outdoor kitchen and sitting area. The host and family were very warm and welcoming and made us feel comfortable right away. They were very attentive to our needs and made the stay very enjoyable. We enjoyed our stay very much and look forward to coming again when we return to Sri Lanka.
