Host & Stay - Golden Lion Apartments

The communication was spot on, easy to follow information provided for parking, locating the building and access to it and the apartment. The building is in a fab spot in the centre of town. Clean bedding and towels, a tea towel, dishwasher tablets and a dishcloth provided. Shower gel and hand soap provided in the bathroom. Also tea, coffee, sugar and milk provided. The water pressure in the shower is great but the shower head needs descaling.

The main door is tatty and dirty and the staircase smells damp and musty. The apartment looks nice but it hasn’t been properly cleaned for a long time. Thick dust evident everywhere - on skirting boards (I cleaned the skirtings and floor in the bathroom for my own comfort - and found the wooden block support under the toilet pan!!) including dust and dog hairs on the sofa, and cobwebs on the bedroom and bathroom ceilings. The rug in the living area is matted and grubby. The water pressure in the shower is great but the shower head needs descaling. The windows were dirty although someone has had a go at cleaning the outsides of them from the inside, so only partially cleaned - is there a local window cleaner that could be employed to make the most of a good view? Unfortunately the view from the bedrooms windows leaves little to be desired but out of the control of the owners. The apartment would be really lovely after a thorough deep clean.

Location was fantastic with views of the famous Whitby bridge. Very clean, modern and comfortable. Easy to access and great communication with host & stay.

The property was ok.

The service was bad. There is no one here to deal with problems. We booked and paid for parking at the property. The parking is not at the property, it is by permit in the local streets and you have find a parking spot if ones available. You must follow the parking rules very carefully as not to get a parking ticket. They forgot to leave any parking permits at the property. So I couldn't park any near the property. I had to park almost a mile away from the property and I had to struggle my bags over that distance. It took them 25 hours to remedy the problem. There has never been a proper apology. They are cold and only seem to want your money. After I booked and paid for my stay they then sent me an email suggesting I need to purchase insurance. Then the emails kept following with more pay for services. You are not a guest. But a cash cow. The apartment was good but the service was crap. The very last email was you better be out by 10am or we will charge you more.

Location is superb.

The click flooring is ill fitted and is lifting and coming apart. The may cause H&S issues ie sharp edges and corners if not fixed.

I cooked a bacon sandwich with the extractor on and the windows open and the numerous smoke alarms went off. This happened in the apartment below as well last time so I think the smoke alarms in these appointments are too close to the cooke.. I had to hold the frying pan under the extractor as my husband ran around flapping a towel at the smoke detectors

Location and everything we need was in the apartment and the shower was amazing
