An English Gem near Union Station

The owner gave me the code and the "rules" of the house the day before we arrived. It was easy to get in and out of the neighborhood (uber drivers never had trouble finding us). We tried two different restaurants within walking distance while we were there and both were excellent. There is a little market right down the street as well and the owner is wonderful. The apartment was spacious and ultra clean. The owner was quick to respond to questions and gave us help when we needed it. We used a laundry service while we were there, Happy Nest. They pick up the clothes and drop them off. The a/c in the apartment worked well, the shower had good water pressure and all the kitchen appliances worked well. Overall, a very nice, comfortable stay in a nice little apartment.

If there are other guests upstairs, they don't always know you are down in the basement. While we were there, we had two different groups come and stay above us. The first group didn't really respect the house "rules" and the second group was a 4th of July party who wouldn't stop shooting off fireworks in the middle of the night (think 2 a.m.). There is a prickly bathmat in the shower, but it was solved by putting a washcloth over it for one of our parties sensitive feet. The only other thing we encountered even remotely negative, was the lack of another stool at the kitchen table.

The tenant upstairs above us were very noisy. Sounded like they're moving furniture around. The aircon is a bit cold, we have to bundle up. Finding a parking place close by was difficult.

The owner was super responsive and the price of the the rent is fair.

The AC is really noisy and there's nothing in the bedroom to feel cosy : no nighstand and no switch to turn off the light from the bed.

I would have liked to give a higher rating as the apartment is nice enough and located in a decent neighbourhood. The host is very responsive and tries to be helpful ( although I found the number of rules and threats to charge me if I don’t follow them somewhat off putting).

The apartment is in a basement , so there is little light and ceilings are low. But the biggest problem by far is noise. There is a closet in the master bedroom that houses a boiler/ heating system. This is extremely noisy ( think small engine room) and it turns on every 30 minutes, including at night. Soundproofing is very poor. You can hear everything that is being said in the apartment above and adults walking and children running feels like a small herd of elephants stomping above you. Update: Since posting my review, the host decided to not reimburse my deposit, making up some things to justify this (such as me rearranging furniture and damaging some tile; I most definitely did not rearrange the furniture or damage any tiles! ) So beware!! The host is very dishonest and vindictive!

centrally located- while parking was difficult elsewhere we never had any issues in front of the apartment- spacious and comfortable-

while there was a designated “quiet time” from 9p to 9a we had the upstairs tenants being loud in the middle of the night( moving furniture, other loud banging)- there is a definite need for some nightstands and chairs- also would be nice to have mirrors in the bedrooms- finally we left the apartment at 5am our last day to catch our flight at 730am so we were in bed by 10pm the previous night. we apparently received a message from the landlord at 11pm with requirements for leaving the apartment including cleaning requirements. the issue we had was we never knew where to take trash to but did not really worry about it since there was nothing about it upon our arrival and we didn’t have a huge amount- we were charged a $10 fee because we did not take out the trash- frustrating .

The apartment was clean and location convenient.

We were required to put down a deposit through a payment process outside of Booking, which we shouldn't have been required to do. A week after we left, we were accused of damage we did not cause. Because we didn't take any photos to back up our case to provide any evidence, we didn't receive the deposit back. We highly caution anyone from working with this host and from making any deposit outside the Booking app.

Dr. Koura graciously accommodated us last minute in her basement apartment. It’s a cozy spot that’s in central DC. Read directions carefully before booking. It takes 7 days to return the deposit and she will return it to you exactly at that time. I will recommend this place to friends in the future.

Dr Koura was extremely helpful in every matter. Either it was regarding parking permit or changing the amount of people in our reservation. The apartment was clean and very comfortable. The localisation was perfect, close to every point of our trip. Stores and restaurants also were pretty close.
