Madeira Gems Apartments

The apartment was good, with a nice view from the balcony

Unfortunately a construction site next to the boundary wall was very noisy. This was not something the Manager was aware of at the time of booking and throughout she and the other staff were exceptionally helpful and polite and tried to find a resolution.

Very beautiful, in good taste, newly renovated apartment. Very central, close to many places of interest. Spacious rooms, comfortable mattress. Very well equipped. A pleasant view of the municipal garden from the small balconies.

The apartment is very close to the hotel where you receive the keys. 1. This should be communicated as when you come with heavy suitcases, even a few meters are far. 2. The Waze gets the taxis to the entrance from Bistro which is not always open. It seems that update is needed for the sake of taxidrivers

Beautiful location right in the centre of Funchal. The apartment is very clean and comfortable and well-equipped although guests should note there is a hob in the kitchen area but no oven. But there are many excellent restaurants and cafés in the area so no need to cook! The terrace was a bonus and we enjoyed sitting out in the evenings listening to the music from the Municipal gardens opposite. The hotel staff were very helpful and responded quickly to any minor issues. We had a great stay at Madeira Gems.

Be aware that the apartment is located on a busy street and there is a great deal of normal day-to-day activity going on. Also the adjacent properties are undergoing major renovation work so there is construction noise during the daytime. This stops around 5:30 pm so evenings are peaceful.

Great location clean and tidy. On the last day building work started that would have significantly changed this review had it happened sooner.

No balcony it also gives the impression of a swimming pool on the roof which is actually in the hotel over the road. Small things but worth noting.

Perfect location infront of a park. Beautiful apartment

The apartment was good on the whole and well equipped and had a lift. Its geographical location is very good. There was a nice welcome touch of a small bottle of Madeira and the local cake .Staff were generally friendly.

The shower (only way of bathing) was poor. The heads did not work as the hand held ran at the same time and could not be turned off. It was less than clean with water stains on the glass, mould in the bottom left corner and the lower tiles in need of a scrub. As regards location there are major works underway with attached buildings under renovation and complete demolition in process. For three days of our five the noise during the day was disturbing and no rest was possible. We should have been informed and would have pulled out.

We stayed at Madeira Gems apartments in Jan 2024, so knew exactly what we would be getting. The location is excellent, as it is overlooking the little park in the centre of Funchal. The apartment is owned by the nearby hotel, which means that there is always someone on reception if you have any problems and you can also use their rooftop bar and swimming pool. The apartment itself is great, with large glass doors overlooking the park, a great kitchen and dining area and a bedroom and ensuite overlooking the tiny street at the rear of the building. There is also another separate toilet off the main lounge and a lift as well. We found the apartment to be well equipped with everything you could need to make a simple meal. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. We were also left a welcome pack of a small bottle of Madeira and some special cake. We loved everything about it and hope to return next year.
