Gillygate Boutique Apartment- Stunning City Centre 1 Bedroom Apartment

Location was really good, the apartment was clean and cosy and quiet, despite being near a main road.

There were quite a lot of steps to get into the apartment which I don't think was mentioned on the booking anywhere.

The location. That's it.

Wasn't clean, showers in particular were mouldy, bed base broken, sofa bed very uncomfortable, stained bedding, blood and yellow. Excessive noise from above until the early hours, sounded like running around and furniture being moved. Freezer completely full of ice, doors propped open with fire extinguishers, kitchen cupboard door doesn't open properly as bangs into smoke alarm. No drawer for cutlery so just slung on the side in a tray WiFi signal very poor. It's a con, people are posting the same reviews since 2022 and nothing is done. York boutique lets are no help and just told us the owner is very hands on with the property. Avoid.

The location is great.

There are some cleaning issues. The shower of the bedroom was clogged!

Fantastic location for the Minster, Shambles, shops and restaurants and even the station wasn’t too far.

Typical city Main Street with plenty sirens were not used to.

Cosy and everything you would want from a city break apartment

The location is excellent & is really the selling point of this property. A short walk around the corner & you’re within the walls another minute & you come to the Minster. The flat is compact but still has plenty of space. I also liked the Christmas tree & decorations, it was a lovely touch & made it feel more cosy.

On the whole it was fairly clean, the living room & kitchen seemed clean (apart from a bare patch of plaster in the living room which I presume had been a treatment for damp with this being a basement flat) and upon first glance the bathrooms did too but both shower heads in both bathrooms were mouldy & the wire to the radiator in the first bathroom had thick dust on it, there were also cobwebs in the corner of the bedroom. Given that check-in isn’t until 4pm & check-out is at 10am these things should really be clean, it was quite unpleasant looking up in the shower to see that the water falling on your face was coming from a mouldy shower head. Guests really should be notified about the steps into the property too, there were no lights on inside & very little to no light from the street lamps outside permitted the darkness, had my partner not noticed the steps before he stepped in, he could have had a nasty fall. The homeowners upstairs are also quite noisy from very early every morning which is something to bear in mind if you fancy a lie in. I have noticed however that many if not all of these issues have been raised before by previous guests & have yet to be rectified, so I doubt any notice will be paid to mine.

The location was great, very close to York Minster, although it's on a very busy road. There was tea/ coffee and good amenities in the kitchen.

This apartment is not really suitable for 4 adults because the sofa bed is extremely uncomfortable , it really needs a mattress topper on it to be able to get any sleep. One plug socket on the wall had a screw sticking out , the riser rail in the en suite shower room was very loose.
