It was in Selby town centre near the shops bars restaurants etc

The room wasn't very clean stains on carpet and dirty bin wasn't empty from last guests, think wall by bed could heat next door guests on Fri sat early hours 2am. The price was bit higher than expected for size of room as was small and my friend had a bigger room at George inn hotel so was bit disappointed

"Deeply Disappointing Stay – Micklegate House, Selby"

1.0

The central location

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Micklegate House was simply unacceptable. To start with, the check-in process was misleading and unnecessarily inconvenient. The advert claims that the keys are kept “a minute’s walk away” — in reality, it took me almost four minutes in the rain to collect the key from a Pub. I neither drink nor frequent pubs, so this was immediately uncomfortable. When I finally reached the property and tried to unlock the room using the Number 6 key provided, I was shocked to find the room already occupied — someone else was inside, with a duplicate of the same key! I had to run all the way back to the Pub to get another key. Why such careless and confusing arrangements? When I eventually accessed my room, the disappointment continued. Paint was peeling off the walls, a clear sign of neglect and lack of basic maintenance. Surely, guests deserve rooms that are at least presentable. Walking up the stairs, I was met with an unsettling portrait of two policemen kissing. While I fully respect everyone’s personal choices, such a bold and provocative image in a shared public space feels inappropriate and unnecessarily imposing. A more neutral, welcoming artwork would be far more suitable for all guests. The bathroom facilities were another letdown — the toilet was extremely cramped, and the shower space so tight one could hardly bend. Even worse, the hot water never worked throughout my entire three-day stay. I reached out to the manager for help, but received absolutely no response — not even an acknowledgment. Cold showers, poor communication, and misleading information — that’s what I got for my money. Micklegate House needs to take its guests’ comfort seriously and deliver the basic standard of hospitality it advertises. Until then, I cannot recommend staying here.

Electric shower was cold, electrical isolator was on, probably thermal fuse or such.

"Good value, poor customer service"

5.0

Good location, excellent chippy next door, room was warm in near zero outdoor temperatures, a few pubs and shops nearby. Contrary to other reports shower worked, but there is a switch that needed to be tuned on on the wall opposite the bed, and it took a few minutes to reach the right temperature. The bar man was great when I collected the key from the 3 Swans, and the free pint was welcome. The room was clean and it looked like it had been recently painted. Linen and towels were fine.

I ventured into the smoking area (a platform on the fire escape) and noticed a bin bag which had evidently been attacked by rodents. The mattress was way too springy, if I turned over, it almost threw me back out of bed, or so it felt. I misheard the room number on arrival, after walking from the pub and climbing several flights of stairs, My arthritis objected to the thought of retracing my steps, so I called the contact number twice to ask what it was. There was no reply, and I finished up having to go back to the pub. The TV remote control wasn't working, but I saw no point in calling the non-answering number again. I was there for 2 nights, but the tea and coffee were not replenished.
