Bon Maison Guest House

The location is on Bourbon St. which is convenient, but also loud (even at the “quiet” part of it). It is a nice old building, but in great disrepair.

In short, the room was damp, dirty, had multiple broken fixtures, and is far below the quality that we were expecting at that price (or any price ). We stayed in Room B which is on the left on the ground floor immediately after you enter the gate. It has NO WINDOWS. As soon as we entered the room were were hit with an overpowering smell of plug in air fresheners only slightly hiding the smell of mold and mildew. There were 4 air fresheners plugged in in just a single small room. The hvac in the room is locked between 70 and 80 degrees and this does not allow the system to reduce the humidity enough. This means that the room is DAMP. The air is heavy with moisture and even if you sweat a little in your clothes, they will be wet the next day. When we arrived back home, all of our belongings and even clean clothes stunk of the mold and damp and needed to be washed. This environment cannot be healthy to breathe in for any length of time. There were many other issues with the room. Despite a $95 cleaning fee added to every booking, the room was not clean. There was dirt and dust on the floor and carpet, some white powder under the bed, the shower was full of paint flakes and the inside of the only closet door was covered in black dust that we actually cleaned with a damp cloth for fear that it would get on the clothes we hung there. Broken fixtures: see the photos of the toilet paper dispenser falling out of the wall and the light above the sink dangling out of the ceiling blocking your ability to open the cabinets. The bathroom sink drain was broken and blocked with hair and other things even washing hands or brushing teeth caused the sink to fill up with water. The room was pretty loud—especially on Friday and Saturday night. As mentioned in other reviews, there are a bunch of people sitting outside the gate playing music and collecting money. You will also hear loud car stereos. Finally, the listing says that bag storage is available with advance notice.

Responsive host, relatively quiet despite the location on Bourbon, nice outdoor seating area. The unit has real potential.

Our Bon Maison stay was unfortunately less than stellar— given the price we paid, we did not expect the smell of mold, dirty conditions under the bed, and mildew + a cockroach in the shower. While the host attempted to rectify the dirty conditions in the room, the whole place needed a major facelift. We knew something was wrong when guests from another room told us they couldn’t even spend time in their space because the smell of mold/mildew was so bad. Clearly, their cleaning regimen is not taking care of the problem between stays and we certainly will not be booking at this location again. We hope they get it sorted so that other guests do not experience the same issues.

The beds, sheets, and pillows were extremely comfortable. I also felt safe with the gate. The location was on the "quiet" end of Bourbon and had plenty of eateries close by. The Guest House is within walking distance of anywhere you want to go in the FQ. I prefer to stay at places with some history and character than the large chain hotels.

I was surprised to find the inside of the shower curtain dirty upon my first use because the rest of the place was very clean... It was promptly replaced! A later checkout or luggage storage would have been convenient due to my train schedule, but with the small staff it wasn't possible.

Run down, dirty , needs updating. The smell of mold, musk and mildew was unbearable. I have asthma and couldn’t spend any time in the room. Had to sleep under the covers as to not breathe it in. Staff is non existent. One coffee cup for two people. 4 towels for a 4 day stay for two people . Two days to get the tv to work. Could be a beautiful property but they need to work on it and update. HVAC system and ductwork needs to be cleaned of mold. Courtyard could be beautiful but just like the rooms filthy , moldy , unkept. I am home and now have a sinus infection. Let’s put it this way, I live in and own a 130 year old property. This was like sleeping in my basement …

Fantastic location

Rugs appeared old and stained - a refresh would benefit the presentation.

The location is the best part! There is nothing else that we liked about the place. The smell was awful, we were only provided 6 towels for 5 people for 4 days! The host claimed housekeeping was bringing fresh towels but that never happened. The host kept lying repeatedly instead of just saying they didn’t provide fresh towels daily

The lies and miscommunication from the host! The mold and mildew smell! The mold and mildew in the shower and on the shower curtain! The carpet has never been cleaned! There was thick dust under the beds! The thermostat is locked so you can’t keep air flow going.

Great communication with the hosts. Wonderful location on Bourbon Street- and our bedroom didn't hear any noises from the street.
