"Good pub/restaurant in walking distance - property needs refreshing"

7.0

Short drive to Seaham. We had a noise issues coming from the next door property who had plumbing issues, we contacted the owner and this was resolved quickly.

It was sold to us on Booking.com as “Seaglass cottage” which appealed as we were going purely to collect sea glass, but it was not named this at all, it was just a number in a street which was a disappointing start. The provided towels were not clean especially the white bath towel which was badly stained so we put it straight in the washing machine and used our own. If towels provided they must be clean, otherwise do not include them! There was no tea towel at all and the washing up sponge needed throwing out and replacing. The property was also advertised as semi detached but was in fact mid terraced. The property was tired looking and needed refreshing

"House in a convenient location for asing the coast"

4.0

House is in a quiet residential street within walking distance of the coast and a short drive to Seaham Hall beach. I arrived a couple of hours early and messaged the host. She agreed to early access to the house for which I was grateful.

The house didn't feel homely and is in need of a freshen up as rather tatty and worn and a bit dirty. I didn't find the bed very comfortable. The house is terraced and there was noise from both adjoining properties.

"Ok for the price and has the basics, sadly noise has put us off staying again."

7.0

The property is walking distance to Ryhope beach and a very short drive to Seaham. There are plenty of supermarkets in close driving distance too, and close to main roads to Newcastle. The cottage has plenty of space for two and has adequate facilities for a short or long stay. The bin situation has improved from our last visit so we could actually deal with the rubbish this time.

This is our second stay so we were not put off enough to not stay again last time, however we were disappointed that since our visit 9 months ago, very little has changed. For example the shower curtain is the exact same as before, which as you can imagine after 9 months is rather dirty. Similarly, kitchen utensils have not been replaced in that time including ones that were broken when we came 9 months ago. The property was fairly clean on arrival although care wasn’t taken to clean under things i.e. tables and the bed linen did have stains/blood on. As I said in my last review, the place has so much potential and could be so lovely with a bit of attention and time. Unfortunately, the neighbours have also acquired a dog since our last visit and were being very irresponsible in letting it bark for hours at night time. Their solution was to turn their TV up very loud to compete with the dog, rather than trying to support the dog. On the second night in particular, the dog barked for 4 hours straight from 10pm to 2am. It got to the point that I had to sleep on the sofa in the next room and put a fan noise on my phone to drown it out. Although this is not the fault of the property owners, it has deterred us from staying again sadly.

"Comfortable , private , no interference or disturbances . Bed was really comfortable . Thanks"

9.0

Conveniently situated . Quiet location . Everything that I needed was there , wi fi password TV remote etc etc . Kitchen was well-equipped , property was clean . No frills but no frills were expected . Basic property , basic price , basically happy with all . Thank you .

Trouble returning the keys to the lockbox when departing the property , it was dark and early and maybe the issue was me and not the lockbox .

"So close but can't get there"

5.0

My own privacy.

Filthy shower heavy with mold, kitchen appliances, cups gross. "Seaglass Cottage" was not essentially a lie in location, but you're no where near getting to the beach. It's next the cliffs of the beach. Town is very small and no where to eat when on foot.
