The Gin Palace with seasonal swimming pool

Nice and quiet location. Superb grounds and amazing having the pool for children to splash around in.

It can be tricky to manage without hot running water which we knew about from reviews however still found it difficult to manage when it came to it.

The Gin Palace was an absolute joy! The property itself is quirky and full of curios and John is the most welcoming host. The outdoor swimming pool was a bonus and if you like chickens, they might just come up and say hello. There are 5 properties as part of this site, not that you'd really know it - there's so much space here, it's perfect for a quiet getaway, either as a couple, or with family. We loved sitting outside, enjoying the dark skies, firepit and occasional meteor. Bring your own wood or John can supply this for you at a small cost. The location is perfect for day trips to local towns. Highly recommend popping to Ellesmere, just a couple of miles away with an excellent deli and butchers. Do check the website and the YouTube video which shows exactly what facilities you have - I've spotted a few negative comments from people who really hadn't read the information before their visit. We loved cooking outdoors on the BBQ (adjustable cooking grill - just perfect!) There is a reduced rate electricity meter for the property - we spent less than £1 per day for our trip. Recycling and being mindful of energy usage is really encouraged here. If you're looking for a generic hotel, there are plenty of chains that will fulfil your needs. If you're looking for a unique, tranquil and cosy spot for some time away, this is the place for you!

There was genuinely nothing that we didn't like. It was our first time staying here, but definitely won't be our last!

My partner and I absolutely loved our stay at The Gin Palace, It was incredibly cosy and felt like a true home away from home. John, our fantastic host, was incredibly friendly and kind, ensuring we had everything we needed, including a generous supply of firewood and an amazing deal to extend our stay. The fireplace was wonderfully warm, making our evenings perfect for relaxation. My partner was particularly taken with the delightful trinkets scattered throughout the palace, each adding a unique charm to the place. Staying in the 'Gin Palace' truly felt like a luxurious experience, and we managed to get in a daily swim in the pool. We can't wait to return!

Honestly there is nothing bad to say about the location, property or host. From the moment we arrived we had the best host and greeting, John is such a brilliant host (he goes beyond expectations to make your stay perfect). He gave my daughter a ride on the trailer of his quad bike, helped us with the bomb fire and marshmallows and made our stay extra special in every way. The pool was just a bonus, the views spectacular and my favourite part was waking up to the sound of nothing apart from nature itself. I love this property and we are already looking into staying again and for longer in 8xweeks time. This will be a regular stay for sure :) . It is such a beautiful treasure my daughter even said it was better than disneyland and this says a lot!. Book, book,book, you will not be disappointed. Thank you so much John for everything.
