"Quirky cottage, ideal base if you don't mind a climb!"

7.0

Beautifully warm on arrival, which was a dark, wet, fairly cold February night with little children, so that was very welcome. The wood burner was used every day and everyone loved it! It had everything we needed except a freezer, which I realised only after buying some frozen items, annoyingly. We then found the freezer the next day (we think?) in a glazed unit in the dining room. The stairs are pretty narrow/steep so wouldn't suit an elderly person. Travel cot and high chair, not mentioned in listing but handy to know if you're a parent. It was a quirky stay, great view down the hill albeit a hike to walk up it from the main road but perfectly do-able with some rests. Well situated for the cable cars - the line runs up just a few hundred yards away. The property was perfectly suitable as a base for us - no frills really but it didn't matter. Good entrance hallway with hooks/shelf, for storing gear and generally dropping all the outdoor clobber, it really helped with organisation.

Kitchen was tiny, more like a kitchenette and only suitable for one at a time, but fine for what it was. Freezer was in an odd place so didn't find it until too late (unit in dining room). Kitchen tap was like nothing i've seen before but eventually got used to it. The property decor and furnishings felt 'tired' but everything was perfectly useable. Some of the kitchen cupboard contents were not very clean but no issue, we washed most things before using them anyway.

"Good Propery. But beware of very steep hills and lack of parking."

7.0

Lovely views from the front bedroom windows. Lovly fire, nice living room and bedrooms, dining room abit chilly but there is heating.

Very steep hills leading up to property. Parking is sadly not available. Nearest space we found was a 5 min walk away down a very steep hill

"Beautiful part of the country in a comfy cosey cottage"

9.0

Beautiful location, comfy beds, great facilties

access to property was difficult, next door neighbour has an old car and a van almost blocking the driveway up to the property which made bringing our luggage up to the cottage very difficult.

"Good views from a cosy hilltop."

7.0

Cosy, quiet spot with fabulous views and the things folk need for a comfortable stay. Property is close to the centre of activities for Matlock Bank. Access to public transport into the Peak District is good, even on Sundays, with busses and trains an option. Useful, as nearest basic supplies are 1.5 miles away. A bottle of wine and a handful of celebrations were left for us on arrival, which was a nice touch, even though we didn't drink it.

Arrived by train - that hill on foot would be too much for some people. Can imagine parking would be a nightmare and people would need a small car and be confident reversing. Worth pointing out that the stairs within the property are steep and some may find those difficult. 'End of season' TLC would benefit some areas within the property. Changeover staff hadn't replenished tea/sugar/coffee/biscuits as pictured - and had overlooked some vegetables in the cupboard. Found Pillow Partners registration process rather tedious. Updating review two weeks after checkout, as the additional Pillow Partners £100 deposit has not been returned - no comms and no refund, despite terms of booking stating a return of deposit within 14 days of checkout. Breaching terms and conditions of booking is very poor indeed and I will not book a property which uses Pillow Partner in future. Also responding to the below response - we had one teabag and two teaspoons of sugar in the pots in the kitchen when we arrived - so they were not refilled - and we actually left some that we bought so future guests would not be as bereft as we were.

Amazing views! Comfy double bed.

The flush on the toilet was the only thing that bothered me.

"Comfy cottage with a stunning view"

8.0

Super comfy cottage with the most stunning view! Nice and clean upon arrival. We loved having the use of the wood burner in the evening. Our son loved the stay too and he said he would love to come back again!

The only thing people need to keep in mind with this property is the location, it’s incredibly high up with very steep hills, we all had to make multiple stops climbing up the hills 😅

"Excellent"

8.0

Proximity to town was excellent. The cottage itself was lovely, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. Communication with host absolutely 💯. Had a minor issue as soon as we checked in, but was easy to contact them and it was sorted very quickly with no problems.

The kitchen is super small, not ideal for self catering. There were no baking sheets (we had pizzas to cook). The bathroom was not as nice as rest of cottage, the flush on the toilet is very temperamental - sometimes it worked first try, other times it took 4 or 5 attempts before it flushed.

Location and view

internally property is tiered needs renovating or at least a freshen up, we needed to buy air fresheners due to musty smell, toilet flush also needs attention
